Chaser “merges” Giant Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder Dwarf

The Chaser team’s production company Giant Dwarf is now to be known as GCGJSFSZDS.....

If you follow news in the independent production sector then you will probably get a giggle out of the latest Press Release from Giant Dwarf, the team at The Chaser.

Just a tip. Don’t believe a word of it….

The Chaser team’s production company Giant Dwarf has announced it will join forces with Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder in a bid to become a new super-indie television powerhouse.

The move follows the merger last February between Cordell Jigsaw and Zapruder’s Other Films, which resulted in the new company Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder. With today’s addition of Giant Dwarf to the fold, the company will now be known as Giant Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder Dwarf.

“This is all about creating a platform so that local independent production companies can compete with the major multinationals like Fremantle and Shine,” said Giant Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder Dwarf co-director, Julian Morrow.

Responding to the announcement, Fremantle CEO Ian Hogg said that Giant Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder Dwarf had now grown so big that it was impossible for smaller entities like Fremantle to be competitive. He said he was left with no choice but to merge with the niche-indie production house, which will now be known as Giant Cordell Jigsaw Fremantle Zapruder Dwarf.

Concerned about their own viability in the marketplace, Shine Australia, Southern Star and Granada will also join the edgy boutique company, giving it the new name Giant Cordell Granada Jigsaw Southern Fremantle Star Zapruder Dwarf Shine (or GCGJSFSZDS.)

All parties to the amalgamation said the merger was all about giving audiences more variety and more locally produced content, and had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with increasing the value of the asset in readiness for an imminent overseas takeover.

The first program on the GCGJSFSZDS slate is the return season of The Hamster Wheel, which begins on Wednesday, September 26 at 9pm on ABC1. The 8-part series features the full Chaser team and is a co-production between Giant Cordell Granada Jigsaw Southern Fremantle Star Zapruder Dwarf Shine and ABC-TV. The Executive Producers are Julian Morrow, Martin Robertson, Andrew Denton, Nick Murray, Michael Cordell, Ian Hogg, Mark Fennessy, Carl Fennessy, Peter Beck and John Edwards. The ABC Executive Producer is redundant.

And for the record, Giant Dwarf productions is also named after a certain other prominent producer that’s been close to the team. Just sayin’….

  1. Too long and too relatively complex for what is really a piece of marketing. I am sometimes reminded of ‘stoner’ humour. You know, friends are off their faces cracking themselves up over an ant crawling on a leaf which they think resembles Jesus’ face on toast. Unfortunately, for me, both the Logies and this sort of marketing is along those lines.
