Chaser’s ratings test

Ratings: The Chaser team returned last night with a song parodying ABC's tumbling ratings on Wednesdays. So how did they do?

The Chaser team returned last night with a song parodying ABC’s tumbling ratings on Wednesday nights (they blamed everyone from Adam Hills to Denton to Micallef screening on Fridays). But while their own numbers were lower than Gruen Planet they were still a  respectable 784,000.

Seven Network won the night with 33.5% then Nine 26.5%, ABC 17.7%, TEN 16.8% and SBS 5.5%.

  1. I’ve been a huge fan of the Chaser for years, but while I enjoyed this first episode, I felt it was far below their best. It was as if they were more concerned with pushing a political agenda than creating the irreverent intelligent humour they are known for.

  2. Just watched it (PVR) and thought it was outstanding. I agree with some of the commenters below that we need this sort of “comedy” in Australia – it’s more investigative and revealling than anything ‘proper’ journalists do.
BTW – did you sort of get the feeling that they were ‘channelling’ TV Tonight? 🙂

  3. Thank God for the Chaser. Like them or loathe them, seeing them back makes you realize the Aussie media landscape needs this kind of voice. They really cut through. The stuff about Bernadi was hilarious.

  4. Sunrise has gone over the top this week with its AFL coverage & its X Factor coverage. Talk about promoting Seven Network programs!!
I’ll have to watch Breakfast or ABC News Breakfast tomorrow.

  5. Far be it from me to decry Australian content, but I’m starting to get turned off by the continuous theme of Australian comedy centering on criticizing or denigrating everyone except the one with the microphone. Despite hefty promotion and a substantial lead in from Gruen, I think the wheel may have fallen off the hamster given that it only just beat a repeat of QI.

  6. Great to see the gap between ABC and TEN slowly closing with less then 1%. The sooner Fresh Look October gets here the better for TEN’s sake.
@ David Knox – you have mentioned Big Brother twice, under both Seven and Nine.

  7. I wonder how many people are going to tell you about your typo error of putting Big Brother in both ch7s and ch9s figures…..he he….very rare typo
