Former Home and Away star Rebecca Breeds has landed her first US television role.

She has the female lead in an untitled single camera camera comedy pilot for CBS opposite Chris Smith, Kal Penn and Tony Shalhoub.

The project centres on a young guy (Smith) who finds camaraderie living among the more experienced guys he meets in a short-term rental complex, including Gil (Penn) and die-hard ladies man and four-time divorcee Frank (Shalhoub).

Breeds will play Julie, Frank’s adorable, independent and neurotic daughter who is trying to get her act together and get over her father issues.

The series comes from Rob Greenberg who has produced How I Met Your Mother and Frasier.

  1. Home and Away seems to send more actors direct to Hollywood than all the UK soaps put together (well, the UK soaps send pretty much 0!). Can’t say I ever thought of her as a comic actor though.

  2. Some big names here. Tony Shalhoub was on Monk for eight years and Kal Penn is quite famous from House, Harold and Kumar and other films.

This sitcom doesn’t sound very interesting though…sounds like Men of a Certain Age done CBS style.

  3. And it’s on CBS too? CBS don’t mess around. They must think this show is really worth it. They’re the highest rated US channel by far. I’m impressed.

  4. The turnaround from summer bay resident to international star seems to be getting quicker. Chris Hemsworth went from soap star to Hollywood celebrity in less than 2 years. And Rebecca’s on screen role only concluded 2 weeks ago.
