Actress Kathy Bates is recovering after a double mastectomy operation following a breast cancer diagnosis.
“After much consideration, I underwent a double mastectomy,” she told People magazine. “Luckily, I don’t have to undergo radiation or chemo. My family calls me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception.”
She also took to Twitter on Wednesday to share the news:
Hey All, sorry for the long silence. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 months ago & am recovering from a double mastectomy.
I don’t miss my breasts as much as I miss Harry’s Law. 😉 Thanks for all the sweet tweets. Y’all kept me going.
Unfortunately, cancer is something Bates has faced before. She was diagnosed, and beat, ovarian cancer just nine years ago, but only shared the news publicly in March.

Good luck Kathy you are a fighter one of my all time faveourite movies is misery she did such a great job portraying the twisted Annie Wilkes
Such an amazing actress who definitely doesn’t deserve a cancer, let alone a relapse. Maybe she can play the sympothy card and get NBC (or another network) to bring Harry’s Law back from the dead! Brilliant show and she deserves to be on our TV’s every week.
Best wishes to an amazing actress. We miss Harry’s Law too!
Some people have such a lot to deal with in life. Power to you Kathy Bates.
Sounds like her spirits are still high, hope she recovers soon and gets back to acting.
