KidsCo to refresh with Zuzu

A new series from Matchbox Pictures will air on KidsCo in 2013 as part of a new channel re-brand.

KidsCo will roll out a redesigned on-air look in the first quarter of 2013 with new new content and a new website.

Amongst the new titles are Zuzu and the Supernuffs from Matchbox Pictures to air in Q2 2013. It follows “five furry intergalactic Nuffs who crash land on earth in a rusty old bathtub, where they meet a new friend Zuzu. Together Zuzu and her furry friends venture through the galaxy harnessing their unique superpowers to free the planet of negative thoughts.”

Additional content from Nelvana, owned by KidsCo shareholder and key strategic partner Corus Entertainment, will be announced later this year.

Hendrik McDermott, Managing Director of KidsCo, comments: “2013 is set to be an exciting year for KidsCo. We will leverage the global capability and expertise of both our shareholders, NBCUniversal and Corus Entertainment, to deliver a refreshed and much stronger channel, which will allow us to compete on the global stage. We will continue to drive our international growth plans through investment in safe, responsible and localised content and provide excellent value for our affiliates.”

Doug Murphy, President, Television, Corus Entertainment, adds: “Corus Entertainment has a wealth of experience in the kids TV space and we look forward to continuing to add more high-quality Corus content from our Nelvana Studio to KidsCo’s pipeline. We are also excited to welcome KidsCo to our world-class technical facility based in Toronto.”

  1. I wonder if this will mean the channel will finally convert from 4:3 cropped aspect ratio to 16:9 widescreen. It is one of two children’s channels left (with the other being Boomerang which is understandable as very little of it’s programming is produced after 2000 as opposed to KidsCo which has programming from very recently to the 90’s) and it would be good to see Foxtel’s pledge to have all channels widescreen finally come to fruition (even if it is over 2 years late seems though Eurosport News, CNN, Discovery Home & Health, Bloomberg, ANT1 and Rai still need to convert).
