New futuristic drama from JJ Abrams

The man behind Lost, Fringe, Alias, Alcatraz, has sold a new futuristic drama to FOX.

A new drama from JJ Abrams is always worth hearing about.

Now the man behind Lost, Fringe, Alias, Alcatraz and more, has sold a new futuristic drama to FOX via his Bad Robot production company.

The untitled project, co-produced with Fringe‘s J.H. Wyman, is described as an action-packed buddy cop show set in the near future (did they leave anything out?), when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.

Wyman is writing and will executive produce with Bad Robot’s Abrams and Bryan Burk. FOX has given the project a Pilot commitment.

Bad Robot is also behind the upcoming new NBC drama Revolution, set 15 years in the future.

Fringe wraps up this season with 13 episodes.

  1. JJ Abrams is making movies these days. It would be more accurate to say that his production company has another new show coming out.

The last TV show Abrams actually ran was Alias. He co-created and wrote the pilot for Lost but the show was run by others once picked up.

The style and quality of the shows they produce varies greatly.
    Revolution is Eric Kripke’s (Supernatural).
Person of Interest is Jonathon Nolan’s.
    Alcatraz was Elizabeth Sarnoff’s.
The new show will be Wyman’s, who took over as show run runner for the last couple of seasons of Fringe.

Abrams gets an EP credit as head of the production company, and usually claims the credit for the 10 second credit theme that US shows have these days.

  2. Sure Lost was good, but David Lynch’s Twin Peaks did the whole “reinventing TV with a surreal mystery” thing back in 1990, and isn’t Fringe yet another X-Files imitation?

  3. JJ Abrams can do interesting stuff, but endings aren’t his strength.

I still haven’t forgotten how he managed to ruin a captivating movie like “Super 8” during the final 10 minutes.

  4. I loved Lost, it wasn’t yet another police procedural or medical drama, it was a new idea and it had an intriguing ongoing story line, but since then JJ Abrams seems to have tried to mix the procedural with Lost and to be honest he’s “lost” me every time. I’m craving for the next “Lost” and not another hybrid or police procedural. Come on JJ, get back to what you’re best at!

  5. watched this last night and from the first ep it looks promising , although its another lost / flash forward / etc where theres going to be far more questions than answers through the series
