Returning: Grand Designs Australia

New episodes of Grand Designs Australia return to the LifeStyle Channel next month.

New episodes of Grand Designs Australia return to the LifeStyle Channel next month.

Season Three will premiere on Thursday October 18 at 8.30pm AEDT. The eight part series from FremantleMedia Australia has taken more than 12 months to film.

Host Peter Maddison said, “Grand Designs Australia Season 3 sees some incredible designs built with exotic materials proving there is no one answer when it comes to selection or style.

“All the brave homeowners are searching for the right answer and I’ve enjoyed trying to find the truth in each.”

Duane Hatherly, General Manager, LifeStyle Channels and Head of Production Foxtel Networks added, “This series is a signature LifeStyle Channel program that is aspirational and accessible as well as authentic and emotional. From the brilliant and varied locations; to the vast scope of the projects undertaken; and the breath-taking architectural results; Grand Designs Australia is arguably one of the most majestic productions on Australian television.

“We are incredibly proud of this show and the successful migration of the iconic franchise to Australia with our own Peter Maddison at the helm. Australians building their dream homes really is a transformative journey and I believe we have captured that again in the third installment of the series.”

Grand Designs Australia charts the in-depth process of elaborate design projects undertaken by self-builders – from the initial details of blueprints, to the long and often arduous task of turning the designs into a practical living space.

No design is too ambitious when it comes to creating your dream home. But discovering the hard realities that complicate your plans can often be too much to bear. From a unique grass covered dome-shaped house on a picturesque hillside; to a timber clad house with Japanese influences and a wrap around pool; and a house that re-defines east coast beach living; Grand Designs Australia follows not only the growth of these special homes, but the personal journeys of those building them.

Leading Australian architect Peter Maddison hosts the series. With over 25 years experience, his projects include a huge range of award-winning residential and commercial work and he has a deep understanding of Australian architecture and our climate, culture and history.

  1. We do not all have PayTV , and I am just wondering if (a) they are available on DVD and (b) could Channel Ten possibly buy the series and show maybe it a year after it is shown on Foxtel ?

  2. Yes, Grand Designs Aus has just returned in the UK with it’s second season (though only found out 10 minutes ago so miss the premiere last night!), and we’ve got out 307th UK series next week too!

  3. I am glad this is back. I really hope this is successful enough they can start having a rolling production on many houses like the UK. Not always focused on the next season. Where they can follow houses over a couple years if need be.

I assumed this happened with two seasons this year. I hope this continues as I quite like the show.

  4. I loved the UK series but there’s no Foxtel where I live so haven’t seen this. I question the term “accessible” in the blurb though. Perhaps they mean the openness of the participants to be realistic and candid about what they go through and the costs (because in Grand Designs there were occasions where an owner was reluctant to admit cost blow outs). but the show isn’t accessible in terms of what the average Aussie can afford and I don’t think the series ever set out to be that. Ambitious and inspirational though…yes. And leaving many viewers like me rather green-eyed.
