Showtime will fast-track Season 5 of Sons of Anarchy to Australian screens later this month.

It will air less than a week after its US premiere.

Sons of Anarchy is an adrenalised drama about a notorious outlaw motorcycle club, SAMCRO, intent on protecting their sheltered small town against encroaching drug dealers, corporate developers and overzealous law officers. The club is equally determined to protect their ruthless and illegally thriving businesses.

Charlie Hunnam stars as Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller, a man whose love for the brotherhood is tested by his growing apprehension for its lawlessness. Golden Globe® winner Katey Sagal stars as Gemma Teller Morrow, Jax’s force-of-nature mother, who along with Ron Perlman as Clarence ‘Clay’ Morrow, Jax’s stepfather, have their own darker vision for the club.

At the end of Season 4, viewers saw “Jax had been battling about [staying with the club or leaving], and [now] he’s absolutely made the decision that he’s going to stay,” Hunman says. “So, energetically, [Season 5 sees] a very different Jax… This is a much more calm, mature, practical and driven Jax, which is going to be really exciting and fun to play.”

8:30pm Sunday September 16 on Showcase.

UPDATE: Now premiering 3:10pm Wednesday September 12.
