TEN overhauls I Will Survive

After dire ratings, TEN will edit I Will Survive into a single episode, to air just one night a week.

TEN’s talent series I Will Survive has survived a Programming change by TEN, but will now air once a week in a re-edited format.

TEN will now screen the show on Tuesday nights at 7:30pm with challenges and eliminations all taking place in a single episode.

On Wednesdays TEN will screen a double episode of US sitcom Last Man Standing at 7:30pm.

Last night the show was last in its timeslot sinking to just 281,000 viewers, behind SBS and even 7TWO.

A TEN spokesperson told TV Tonight, “I Will Survive is still part of TEN’s prime-time line-up and we remain committed to making brave programs.”

Keeping the show at 7:30pm Tuesdays, rather than keeping it on Wednesdays, will still be a challenge because the show will face-off against The X Factor‘s verdict show.

TV Tonight readers have been asking for fast-tracked episodes of Glee which begins in the US tomorrow. TV Tonight understands the music series is coming soon.

The expensive failure of I Will Survive follows a string of disappointment for TEN including Everybody Dance Now, The Shire, Breakfast and Don’t Tell the Bride but the network is pinning its hopes on promising reviews for Underground: The Julian Assange Story and the return of Homeland.

  1. Firstly, bring back Dallas.. There are some die hard fans and to see Hagman, Grey, Duffy, toplosky, Shilton and the others whom I cannot think of acting together once more after so many years is amazing.. Bring back Dallas.

I will survive.. Leave it alone, I do not like all the sing song reality tv shows. But this show, this bunch of not so gay so guys is awesome. Absolutely love it.

Fed up with embarrassing bodies, frankly it gives me the creeps. Eew!

Leave Dallas and I Will Survive alone please.

  2. I liked Dallas and its gone!
I like I Will Survive so it will go too.
IWS has really struggled to fill the 2 nights a week role. Jason is not working as mentor and judge.
    Guest actors save the show.

  3. Try a different night when the x factor isn’t on up against that it hasnt got a chance hopefully the moves means the excellent puberty blues will have a better lead in and rate higher such a shame that puberty blues wasn’t on seven it would have probably done double maybe even triple what it is doing on ten

  4. when ever one of the networks get a hit show the others have to follow suit, this works in America because there are more channels than public health care professionals. we have 5 main channels. 3 of which are hell bent on competing. 7 and 9 have found a winning formula with sunrise and today, ten just needs to copy what they do, but differently… lol.

ditching video hits and the circle were big mistakes. channel 10 is fighting a loosing battle, what’s worse is the battle is with themselves.

  5. why is ten so intent on trying to find the next big reality show? bring back “so you think you can dance” or “Australian Idol” maybe ten could even do “Australia’s Next Top Model” or even “project runway Australia” seeing as both of those are fox programs…

  6. I really hope they find a better vehicle for Hugh Sheridan, he is a talent. Have they tried him out on The Project? Ten should be congratulated for really trying with some shows. Other networks are criticised for dumping too early. I really hope they are working hard at getting a strong schedule for 2013 together anchored by the 5pm news through to the late news. Maybe even bringing Neighbouts back to 10? I would suggest:

    5pm News
    6pm Neighbours
    6.30 The Project
7.00 TBL – Masterchef – another “stripped” show
7.30 – 8.30 – quality imports – Glee, modern Family etc and The Living Room
8.30 – Offspring, Homeland, Law & Orders, Puberty Blues, NCIS, new quality Aussie drama from proven performers like Claudia Karvan
9.30 – Best of the rest of imports and maybe some brave choices like fast tracking Sons of Anarchy, Boardwalk Empire and The Newsroom
    10.30 – Late Night news

Keep Saturday nights light with Graham Norton or even younger skewing UK drama or theme nights

On Sunday nights make them an event again with one hour anchors of TBL, Masterchef etc leading into made for TV movies and blockbusters. It’s a bit of back to the future but may work.

Good luck 10, we need a strong 3rd FTA channel in Australia.

  7. Wow, they will be busy editing in the next few days. I must say I really enjoy the show. Here’s a suggestion for Ten. Edited show at 7.30 Tuesdays as planned and the full two episodes at maybe 7.30 Saturday wher they have been ‘encoring’ it anyway.

  8. This is still madness… it’s not the programme that needs the overhaul… it’s the timeslot that is the problem. Having a new talent show up against an already massively successful talent show was never going to work. Why won’t TEN just admit they made a mistake and shift it to a different time/day? I really feel sorry for all involved with IWS but at least TEN didn’t dump it all together.

Where TEN is failing is their insistence of providing programmes that appeal to younger viewers. Clearly the younger demos are already watching BB and X Factor, put something that might appeal to their parents instead.. maybe Last Man Standing may offer this. In my opinion, I think TEN is actually doing the right thing by not replacing IWS on Wednesday with Glee… that would be another disaster move.

  9. In other words, unlike EDN all the episdes of IWS are already “in the can” and paid for, so they might as well be played out. It’s a shame they can’t catch a break. Perhaps they should replay some of their classic shows one night a week like X-Files and Melrose Place, Twin Peaks etc. ALl the shows that made ten great should get another airing…

  10. Why the hell does TEN show i will survive on a Tuesday night ? Put the show on Thursday 7:30pm & more people will watch. X-Factor is everyones favourite mon-tues-wed

  11. Maybe part of the problem with their ratings is that you have to click 2 buttons on your remote to get to Ten, whereas you only have to hit one button to get to all the other primary channels.

  12. Good move. The Wednesday episode of I Will Survive is full of padding and not as tight as Tuesday’s.

Ten still has a clueless programming department. Last Man Standing is a turkey and will rate accordingly.

Just fast track Glee – it’s a proven performer with their desired demographics and has Kate Hudson and Aussie Idol star, Dean Geyer joining this year.

No brainer but clearly Ten has lost all commercial sense. Very sad.

  13. Really? Turning 2 hours of tv into 1 is going to help?? This kind of butchery of a show will do nothing but get it off air faster. The show itself will suffer badly with huge amounts of content, which may have given it some substance, chucked away. I feel for the contestants and the crew.

  14. Buggary bollocks 🙁

I actually quite like this effort from Ten, and knowing it would basically be a once-off meant that I could take it or leave it more easily. I chose “take”.

I am disappointed that others did not feel the same.

  15. To me there seam to be a lot more shows failing this year on all the networks both local and international, most are on TEN, followed by Nine. But it’s just TEN hasn’t had any huge hits this year, even Master Chef was not a huge rater this season, just a solid performer.

  16. Next Wednesday should be an easy one for you David. Just cut and paste this week’s ratings because I can’t see these changes to IWS making any difference.

  17. Not surprising unfortunately ! When do we think Warburton and Murdoch will stand up and be accountable.

Track run so far – Breakfast, YTT, The Shire, Lara Bingle, Everybody Dance Now, I Will Survive….The Bolt Report.

Axed Late Night News, The Circle, Video Hits.

Would the Board please explain how far audiences, revenue and shareholders have to suffer ?

  18. The big issue concerning Glee could be that it could either:
-rate it’s socks off: much better than what Ten is getting now, if Ten keeps the delay to within a week, including keeping it on during non-ratings (when it will need to retain viewers) in a attempt to catch up with the US.
    or,
-Ten brings the third season on to the network weeks after the US premiere, leading to the core audience downloading the first few episodes, leading to a flat return, with no chance at even attempting to catch up with the US during non-ratings.

I really hope Ten uses the first option…

  19. its an improvement but still doesnt adress the biggest issue of being up against the X factor. why would they not just have LMS on Tues, Glee on Wed, IWS on Thurs?
