Treme to end with fourth season

US drama series Treme will have a fourth season, but it will be the last.

US drama series Treme will have a fourth season, but it will be the last.

There had previously been talk of a fourth season for the HBO series, but there will be fewer episodes this time round.

“We are going to be back for a season 3.5,” co-creator David Simon said. “HBO, upon viewing the 10 (season-three episodes) that we gave them and what we’ve done, they want to see the end of the story. They fought very hard to give us half a loaf. We’re going to take it and run.”

Despite initial critical acclaim, the series struggled to find an audience. During its second season, it ranked as the network’s lowest rated drama, pulling fewer than 500,000 viewers.

It airs in Australia on Showcase.

  1. The first season of Treme, with the story featuring John Goodman rated OK. The second series only got half the ratings. It was more of a slow moving ensemble piece, which I quite liked.

With Justified, The Walking Dead, Dexter, Boardwalk Empire and In Treatment all on next month I will have trouble fitting the 3rd season of Treme in. Let alone The Newsroom, Hell on Wheels, Boss, Franklin & Bash and The Glades. Fortunately the cable channels will have to repeat them some next year till new eps become available 🙂

  2. I very much enjoyed both seasons of Treme I’ve seen so far. Looking forward to season 3 & 4.

I’m often surprised by how many really excellent shows rate so poorly, in the US as well as here. The garbage so often rises to the surface while the jewels often sink like stones.

  3. Such abeautiful show. As much as I love Treme, I was wondering how long they could stretch this, since Season 2 was set 18 months after Season 1. Can’t wait for Season 3 to begin. At least they are getting a season wrap-up.

They finally learnt how to bow.
