World Movies hosts second Secret Cinema

World Movies will stage its second Secret Cinema in Sydney in October, and Melbourne and Brissy are next.

World Movies will stage its second Secret Cinema in Sydney in October, after its sell-out mystery screening of Iranian film Circumstance in May.

Secret Cinemas are also set to take place in Melbourne and Brisbane in early 2013.

Details are highly-classified, but it has been revealed that Sydney’s second World Movies Secret Cinema event will take place on Sunday 21 October at 5.15pm. Guests must be ready for any film genre – from horror to comedy – but this time must be prepared for any mode of transport to the unknown location.

An acclaimed film has been perfectly paired with an unexpected (and quite unbelievable) Sydney location. Once again, World Movies will be bringing the film’s culture to life on and off the screen – with extravagant theming, sumptuous food and drinks, activities, performers, and so much more.

Tickets are $30 and go on sale 9am Monday 8 October. All tickets include a drink upon entry and food throughout the night, as well as the cinema experience and some spectacular surprises. Guests will be notified of the meeting point via text message on the day of the event.

World Movies Secret Cinemas are scheduled to take place in Melbourne and Brisbane in the first half of 2013. More details will be unveiled after the Sydney event.

“We received an overwhelming response to the first World Movies Secret Cinema, so we’re thrilled to bring it back to Sydney, and beyond to Melbourne and Brisbane for the first time,” said Chris Keely, General Manager of SBS Subscription TV. “This event perfectly captures the spirit of World Movies – adventurous, enlightening and ground-breaking. Announced today, our Sydney event will be more elaborate than the last one in every way. We can’t wait to share the secret with you this October.”

The first World Movies Secret Cinema in May 2012 received an overwhelming response – the event sold out in less than an hour and saw hundreds in attendance on the night. The location was revealed on the day as Lo-Fi and The Standard in Darlinghurst, and the film was unveiled as the Sundance award-winner Circumstance (Iran, 2011). The multi-level venue was lavishly themed with performers, Persian cuisine, specialised drinks and surprising elements throughout the night.

World Movies are working with not-for-profit event producers The Festivalists to create this series of World Movies Secret Cinema events. The Festivalists are responsible for the innovative Jurassic Lounge events at the Australian Museum, as well as the Possible Worlds Canadian Film Festival, Kino Sydney and created the inaugural Sydney Film Festival Hub this year.
