Airdate: Asia Broadcasting Union TV Song Festival

J-pop, K-pop! SBS is set to screen Asia's very own answer to the Eurovision Song Contest.

J-pop, K-pop, Gangnam style….!

SBS is set to broadcast the very first Asia Broadcasting Union TV Song Festival later this month, already being touted as Asia’s very own answer to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Long-term readers of TV Tonight will recall that plans to stage Asiavision, licensed to a private company, have failed three times.

Now the Asia Broadcasting Union, which previously ran similar song contests from 1985-87, will stage its first ABU TV Song Festival in Seoul, showcasing K-pop, J-pop, C-pop and entries from 11 regional countries, including Australia. However, it is not expected to run as a competition with voting.

SBS PopAsia hostess Jamaica dela Cruz will be co-hosting the SBS broadcast which will also feature backstage interviews, performer profiles, music videos and the latest music news.

Representing Australia is DJ Havana Brown with her triple platinum selling single We Run the Night, who was nominated for two ARIA Awards in 2011 for Highest Selling Single as well as Breakthrough Artist.

An ABU Radio Song Festival will also take place concurrently, but won’t be screened.

Sunday October 28, 9.30pm on SBS ONE.
