Catriona upbeat about ending with Getaway

Catriona Rowntree sounds very relaxed about the end of her run with Getaway, yet to be formally axed by Nine.

Catriona Rowntree sounds very relaxed about the end of her run with Getaway.

“We’ve known for some time what will be happening next year and I’ve embraced that change,” she told News Limited.

“It can be scary, but someone said to me the other day the title ‘free agent’ and I liked that. You’ve got to be able to evolve.”

Of course, Nine still hasn’t confirmed the end of the long-running travel show yet, despite Rowntree and Jules Lund no longer regulars within Nine. A summer series is yet to come and Nine is unlikely to confirm bad news when it still wants the show to perform.

Rowntree, who says she got gifts from David Gyngell and Jeff Browne, says she expects to maintain work ties with Nine.

“I’m so grateful to be able to call the best job in TV mine for the last 17 years.

“In saying that, I haven’t had a job interview in 17 years!”

  1. I wonder if Ms Rowntree was an employee of Nine, or working as a freelancer. Surely if she was an employee of 17 years her severance pay is likely to be huge. And if she was removed as a cost-cutting measure to appease those behind the hedge funds, I wonder how much Nine would have actually “saved” by getting rid of her?
