Dame Edna Everage has been voted our favourite Variety TV character ...and it's a tie in Pay TV.

Break out the gladdies. Dame Edna Everage has been voted our favourite Variety TV character, according to TV Tonight readers.

Barry Humphries’ iconic character made early appearances on Channel Seven in the 1950s as ‘Mrs Everage’ and has since appeared on multiple variety shows both in Australia and internationally. She defeated the equally iconic Norman Gunston and sports commentators Roy and HG.

Just under 1000 surveys were completed and here are the final results:
