iView booms on tablets, phones and computers.

Viewing programs on iView via phones and tablets is now as popular as viewing via the website.

ABC has released information that indicates viewing programs on iView via phones and tablets is now as popular as viewing via the website.

Last week, iView streaming on iOS devices represented 45.2% of total plays, versus 45.1% via the ABC website.

ABC Children’s content has contributed to the huge growth in popularity of iView via iOS devices, accounting for 15 of the top 20 programs viewed via iOS (last week).

The iView website also continues to grow, recording a record 1.1m visitors and 4.1m visits last month, partly due to the first-run previews of Doctor Who. There were more than 11.7m program plays in September, on devices including smart phones and tablets, computers, connected TVs and gaming consoles.

Arul Baskaran Controller Multiplatform ABC TV says, “ABC iView led the way as Australia’s first catch-up service, providing choice in terms of what people watch, when they watch, and the variety of devices they can watch on.

“We continue to evolve iView to best serve our audience and respond to shifts in how Australians use technology. We’re seeing explosive growth in mobile and tablet viewing of TV content and are very pleased with the popularity of iView on these platforms. We look forward to enabling the service on more devices in the future.”

  1. IView looks better on my large PC monitor…which is HD….than on my, now defunct TV which also was HD….so glad for it….or I would be missing my fave ABC shows….while I go through the maze of trying to pick a new TV…so many brands with issues….confusing for this old bird!

  2. iView has def led the way. They just need to lower the compression a bit. Bandwidth is pretty cheap and you can achieve a marked increase in quality for a relatively small increase in filesize.

  3. IView is the best catch-up site currently. I never use the phone because it’s too small for my failing vision but I use the tablet all the time as well as through the x-box for the TV if I want larger still.

The kids use the tablet and the computer.

Catch-up (in particular iView) has revolutionised our household because of sport etc we use catch-up as we’re not home for a lot of programs when they are on normal schedule.
