Killing Time legal threat ends

A serial killer has lost his fight to stop the airing of Killing Time episodes on Seven.

Serial killer and rapist Peter Dupas has lost his fight to stop the airing of Killing Time episodes on Seven.

Dupas’s lawyer John Desmond told the court that episodes nine and ten, which are due to air in December, could prejudice a jury if Dupas was granted a retrial.

He said Andrew Fraser was the key witness in the case and the graphic portrayal of Dupas’s confession and re-enactment of the murder would compound existing prejudice in the notorious case.

Seven’s lawyer, Ron Merkel QC, told the court the application for suppression was premature and hypothetical.

He argued the case was well known, as was the part Fraser played. He submitted it featured in a book written by Fraser and was widely publicised.

The Court of Appeal is yet to hand down a decision on whether Dupas’s murder conviction will be quashed and a retrial ordered.
