Mission to the Edge of Space delayed again

A Live TV daredevil feat is delayed twice due to poor weather conditions and is yet to be rescheduled.

Felix Baumgartner was first set to jump on Monday, with 7mate crossing Live from Roswell, New Mexico.

That was delayed to last night, Australian time.

Seven’s Mike Amor on the spot had to deliver us the bad news last night that nope, he didn’t look like jumping again last night either. 7mate would be going back to normal programming. Bummer.

Alas the Red Bull Stratos event by the Austrian daredevil, promoted as a record-breaking freefall from 120,000 feet above the earth, had been delayed a second time. According to the official website the launch was stopped at 11:42 a.m. MDT. Gusty winds picked up and made it impossible to safely launch Felix.

The Age reports Baumgartner was already installed in the pressurized capsule, and a five-minute countdown had been started, but as it reached zero it became clear that conditions were too gusty.

The only update available indicates “The Red Bull Stratos launch today was aborted due to strong winds. We’ll keep you updated on possible new launch days.”

Corrected.

  1. David, would you mind contacting Seven and ask them,
“In what city of Perth (could be Scotland) did they show the Red Bull Stratos project Live”, as advertised during their 6pm news in Perth WA last night 14/10/12.
They said from 11.15pm WAST. I set the PVR to record from 11.13pm for 3hrs 30min.
Just after midnight I ficked across to 7Mate to watch it, but they had on “Most Shocking Top 20” as advertised. Then it was Red Bull X Games, a BMX type show.
I tried 7, 7TWO and the rest of the FTA’s to no avail. ABCNews24 had some coverage from BBC World. So I watched it from the Red Bull site on YouTube.
Mike Amor came on after 1pm WAST to say things are going well and the balloon is being inflated. Hello at that time Felix was at 47k feet.
I phoned 7 here and they told me it went to air at 11.23pm WAST. No it didn’t.

    How come?
    Thanks David.

  2. On Nine News Facebook page they had a link to a Live Stream of the event.

What is the story with the 7mate coverage? Have they paid for TV Rights but not online rights?

  3. no worries
suprised me they hid it away on 7mate.

I get its more suited to that networks genre but at 11,30pm going to all that breaking news special why woukdnt you put it on 7
