Nine “excited” about new-look Australia’s Got Talent

"We are excited to be adding it to our schedule for 2013 and beyond," Nine confirms.

Nine has confirmed it has acquired Australia’s Got Talent for 2013 after Seven walked away from the show yesterday, and is already discussing new judges.

“The Got Talent brand is without doubt one of the world’s biggest entertainment programs right now and we are excited to be adding it to our schedule for 2013 and beyond,” said Nine’s Head of Television Michael Healy today.

A statement from Nine says a ‘new look Australia’s Got Talent on Nine will have a fresh and fun approach to the production, new hosts and judges and a broader base of exciting talent to bring to the Australian audience. The global success of Got Talent has seen the format top the ratings in Britain- where the finale was watched by a massive 13.8 million, the US, New Zealand and scores of other territories around the world.’

“We are already in discussions with a number of exciting judges to bring to the panel and have begun series planning with FremantleMedia on expanding and focusing the search for Australia’s most talented acts to showcase to our audience,” said Healy.

Nine is expected to launch the series on the second half of 2013, with The Voice in the first half of the year.

  1. I rejoiced when it had been axed , but alas I rejoice no more, but then again it is only another show that I do not watch, how about some drama, oh do not be silly that costs money where else can you have people perform for free, you get an equally silly population paying for it through their phone calls. win win for the network, only have to pay the band, hosts and judges.

Oh well my Bluray gets a work out , now where did I put Season 1 of “Picket Fences”

  2. I agree deedeedragons, I would love to see David Campbell as host! He’s the same size as the previous host, and more entertaining – plus he can sing!

  3. @ StephenVic, yeay I agree..Ant n Dec help make the GB show. A slightly sharper Hamish & Andy might work, its just that Andy always seems slow and a bit dopey

  4. What is it with all these silly reality/talent shows with concepts that are obviously foreign owned and shown all over the world, it seems to me some big conglomerate is making a lot of money out of these.

What about making our very own unique sci fi series, a 45 week a year drama series or heaven forbid our very own sitcom or two?

With the favourite fictional character poll that was done on this site just recently, in a few years time when we look back at what TV has been like this century, there will simply be no fictional characters to choose from in a TV land now filled with cheap nonsensical reality and talent shows.

  5. I agree with jumpjakflash I have noticed this year i’ve really only been watching Nine. I think with everything they have for next year we might see some close results between 7 and 9. Maybe there comeback year??? you never no

  6. I seriously think that to get viewers hooked they should get a female judge as the baddie…say Deni Hines??? Never seen an episode of AGT but if she was a judge I would definitely tune in….

  7. Nine has done wonders with the Big Brother format, so I’m sure they’ll be able to make AGT fresh again.

But I’d rather Nine come up with some new programming instead of reviving the dead. Next thing you know, Everybody Dance Now will be a Nine staple.

  8. Nine certainly has come back swinging this year!
Never did I watch Channel 9 in the past, but this year, with The Voice & Big Brother, its just about the only Free to Air telly I watch!!

  9. The Voice – Australia’s Got Talent – when d’ya reckon they’ll wheel out Nine’s take on Australian Idol?

Joy, oh Bliss – wall to wall talent shows.

Terry Dear will be spinning in his grave…
