A Moody Christmas in talks for US adaptation

ABC's new comedy looks set to be the next series to be primed for a US adaptation.

A Moody Christmas looks set to be the next ABC series to be primed for a US adaptation.

The new comedy from Jungleboys would follow US adaptations in the pipeline for Rake, The Slap and The Strange Calls.

Review with Myles Barlow is already adapted as Review with Forrest MacNeil for Comedy Central and stars comedian Andy Daly.

Review creators Trent O’Donnell and actor/writer Phil Lloyd also created A Moody Christmas.

Both were in LA doing meetings a week ago to pursue opportunities for their comedy, which follows a dysfunctional family across successive Christmas gatherings.

Producer Jason Burrows from Jungleboys TV confirmed a couple of offers have been made to buy the show.

”There has been a lot of interest, internationally, for both the show and the format,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

”Everyone is after the next Modern Family, both here and internationally,” Burrows said. ”And I think Moody Christmas has a bit of an edge to it that seems to really appeal to people.”

The show is currently airing in Australia at 8:30pm Wednesdays on ABC1.

  1. No, not a non-story. With Rake and Strange Calls being optioned, this makes a third ABC show being tapped on the shoulder in less than two months. A very short time, this makes it pretty unusual- especially when Strange Calls wasn’t even on air when it was announced.

  2. @Gonzo, that’s a bit glass half empty! Considering they already have a series that’s been adapted I’d say a lot of the hard yards have been done. And as soon as I saw the first episode, I actually thought the premise of the series was ripe for international adaptatation.

  3. Non story. Most Aus scripted series get optioned in the US. Most don’t even end up getting a pilot produced.

Perhaps the producer feels reporting that they’ve spoken to some agencies garners interest in the local broadcast – but It likely doesn’t.

Will be interesting to see if any of these recent reports of ABC series getting picked up in the States ever eventuate into a fully produced pilot.

  4. Loved the first episode of this show. So many LOL moments. It’s fast paced and the episode was jam-packed with jokes and visual gags. I have to go back and rewatch it.
