Chevy Chase to exit Community

Chevy Chase is out by "mutual agreement"after a series of problems between actor and production.

Chevy Chase is out of Community after three and a half years, effective immediately.

Reports claim the exit is “by mutual agreement” between the actor and producers.

Most of the 13 episode fourth season has been filmed but Chase will be absent from 1 or 2 episodes that are yet to be filmed.

Chase has had a rollercoaster ride with the comedy, famously clashing with creator Dan Harmon, who was replaced as showrunner weeks after leaking an angry voicemail from him.

In October, he used an N-word on-set when questioning dialogue in a scene, then “immediately” apologised to the cast.

According to sources, Chase has been increasingly frustrated and uncomfortable with the direction of his character, Pierce Hawthorne, and had felt that Pierce had run his course.

He recently told the The Huffington Post UK of his return, “It was a big mistake! I just sort of hung around because I have three daughters and a wife, and I figured out I might as well make some bread, every week, so I can take care of them in the way they want… The hours are hideous, and it’s still a sitcom on television, which is probably the lowest form of television.”

In the US Community‘s fourth season begins in February Season 4 but if the show isn’t renewed his absence as a supporting character is unlikely to be notice.

  1. I don’t care, just wish NBC had put the show on when it original planned to, apparently then have some holiday eps like Halloween that will now be aired well after the event. It will be interesting to see if they edit them somehow.

  2. It’s interesting to note that they’ve already filmed the season finale, which means he’ll be missing from two episodes during the season… I wonder how they’ll explain his absence, perhaps he’ll be on vacation… A National Lampoon Vacation? Thank you! I’ll be here all night!

  3. One of the main reasons I got into watching Community was because of Chevy. The joke where Jeff says he’ll give 30 seconds before Pierce refers to something racist was what got me hooked.

    That – and Annie.

Chevy leaving will cement the show into a big Chang in direction, if it wasn’t already Britta’d after Dan Harmon was Deanied his own work of art by Sony.
