  1. I know that David but let’s face it.That show has been in trouble for a longtime. The only reason why they stick with it because The AFL Footy Show is so strong

  2. This is well deserved for Hutchy. I really think 9 would get better value out of its Footy Ahows if it aired the alternative on Go at 9.30pm. IE AFL in NSW and QLD rather than at 11pm +

  3. Can’t they put the other show on Gem? When the second channel was launched, they used to show the AFL Show live in Sydney……..they really should do that, the AFL show would rate pretty well, considering how poorly the NRL one rates (and 9 should take advantage of the Swans success)

  4. Fair call.AFL Footy show has been kicking goals for years with very solid ratings. With soft lead in’s it deserves a earlier slot.On the other hand with Channel 9 having heaps of money problems and sticking with the NRL Footy Show.It does make you wonder why they keep supporting a dud?

  5. Yeah, wow, that is a big acknowledgement of how scared they are of Before The Game chipping away at their audience.

Sadly there will always be a larger audience prepared to watch Sam Newman making fun of foreigners and the intellectually handicapped – apparently that’s hilarious! – but hopefully the good-natured fun of Before The Game might hold onto the less brain-dead portion of the footy audience.

  6. @kabigon Personally I would prefer to see The Marngrook Fooy Show return to NITV (launching 12/12/12 on SBS 4), as then it can still get a National Audience, rather than CH 31 and pretty much Melbourne only.

I will be a Before The Game watcher over the Footy show, prefer the style, though not a big fan of Dave Hughes (but he’s bearable). Would love BFTG to go to a 2 Women Panel and have Sam Lane’s sometime fill-in Angela Pippos on as a regular (still miss her doing ABC News Sports).

  7. I doubt NRL version will start earlier because there are going to be thurs night games starting at 8pm live on 9. It probably wouldn’t start until 10pm the weeks Thursday games are on.

  8. It will still run overtime. I’ll still watch ‘Before The Game’ in preference if TEN hold their nerve. Hutchinson as host won’t get me watching on Sunday.

I’d be much happier if Footy Classified was on at 8.30pm – even on one of the digital channels.

  9. Hmmm.. wonder what Before The Game on 10 will do now. It used to be on Saturdays until they moved it to Thursdays at 8.30, just before The Footy Show on 9 (even though it frequently finished a few mins after The Footy Show started).

Surely both shows will not have the same starting time?

  10. Great to see solid confirmation that Footy Classified is coming back, I hope they do an episode the Monday after the grand final next year, being a show that mainly analyses the previous weekend’s happenings it puzzles me that they don’t talk about the biggest week of the AFL year after it’s happened.

And while I’m at it, would love to see Marngrook return to Ch31 if the ABC have given up completely on it…

  11. seen this coming for a while, it will do really well for melbourne, but it will cause scheduling chaos in other states. 9 should take this opportunity to axe the NRL footy show and replace it with another NRL talk show.

  12. …. however, also in 2013, The NRL Footy Show (in Sydney & Brisbane) will continue to run overtime, meaning that the AFL Version will continue to air on Nine late!

I wish that the ”Late List” was on this site for years, as i don’t recall the NRL version finishing on time, once, over the last few years (printed guides generally had it finishing at 11pm. however, would actually finish closer towards the 11.30pm mark).

I do hope that the move to 8.30 works well for the AFL version. Having a 20th anniversary year for a sports show is a huge achievement.
