Talks may lead to fresh start for Helen Kapalos

Sacked TEN presenter Helen Kapalos is reportedly talking with CBS, al-Jazeera and at least two Australian networks.

Sacked TEN presenter Helen Kapalos is already in discussions on opportunities with other networks.

Fairfax reports she will meet CBS news executive Bill Mondora in New York this week. She is also speaking with al-Jazeera and at least two Australian networks.

A Nine spokeswoman told the newspaper: ”There isn’t a role for her now [but] she has been part of the network in the past, so you can’t say never.” A Seven spokeswoman said it was ”too early to speculate” about her joining the network. ABC and SBS did not comment.

Since it began enforced redundancies with Kapalos, Bill Woods, Ron Wilson and a number of staff mostly in News, TEN has been the target of a wave of criticism in media and online.

”It is easy for our critics to make sweeping statements and accusations… which have no substance,” a spokeswoman said. ”We have, of course, thanked Helen for the significant contribution she made [and] she departs with our best wishes.”

Kapalos has been visiting New York since her TEN sacking, but launched her blog helenkapalos.com.au.

She declined to comment.

  1. It’s terrible she got the axe, but sometimes these things that look bad at the time, turns out great in the end. Am sure you could do a whole blog David, on people who got canned from a network, and then went on to bigger and better things.

  2. @ jezza the original one – Sorry to disagree but Helen is not just another newsreader. She is a star. Just another newsreader would not be wanted around the world. Seven should get Mal and Helen to do an hour news service at 6.pm. It would rate through the roof.

  3. Would be hilarious for her to get a job with one of Tens affiliate News shows then she would still possibly be shown on Ten known again to rub it in their faces

  4. 7 or 9 could really throw a spanner in the works and offer mal walden a job. With the mood at ten he would probably accept it, and with Helen dumped they’d really be in trouble and have to regret dumping her.

  5. 9 or 7 should employ Helen & give her a late night news gig directly against Ten’s golden boy Hamish MacDonald. Would love to watch her trounce him in the ratings.

  6. Well I could see her joining the Seven Network and replacing the out of form Peter Mitchell who has fallen behind Peter Hitchener. This owuld be the most likely out come to happen from the way I see it. They could potentionally offer Peter Mitchell a job in Seven’s Sunday Night as a lead interviewer and to lead up special coverages on the network.

  7. While it is always sad when anyone loses their job, she is just another news reader in an over crowded market. Ch10 were over staffed, someone has to go…its just business….maybe badly handled though
