Judge Judy for breakfast

Updated: So how is TEN now rating at breakfast without Breakfast?

Judge Judy for breakfast?

The outspoken American judge might be the answer to TEN’s morning woes, if the numbers for Paul Henry’s replacement are anything to go by.

Ratings data indicate that since Breakfast left our screen a week ago, TEN’s numbers in the timeslot have gone backwards. Given it was averaging about 50,000 that’s not exactly encouraging.

With the US import shows now in place during the mornings, TEN’s audience is now hovering at around 15,000.

The point for TEN of course is that none of these programmes cost anywhere near the outlay of Breakfast.

Wednesday December 5
6:00am CBS This Morning: 9,000
7:00am Wurrawhy 5,000
7:30am Entertainment Tonight 16,000
8:00am The Insider 15,000
8:30am The Bold & The Beautiful rpt 18,000
9:00am Judge Judy 135,000 *
9:30am Everyday Gourmet with Justine Schofield 33,000
10:00am Good Chef, Bad Chef 26,000
10:30am A Taste of Travel 19,000
11:00am The Living Room rpt 31,000

By contrast here are Wednesday’s numbers on the opposition:
Sunrise 374,000,
Today 323,000,
The Morning Show 160,000,
Mornings 107,000,
ABC News Breakfast 43,000 ABC1 / 36,000 ABC News 24

  1. Am also not surprised with those numbers. These figures make Breakfast and The Circle’s numbers look like masterpieces. Lol.

I would prefer to see an encore of The Project during than day rather than where it is not (after the Late News).

If Ten aren’t going to air a panel-type brekky/morning/news type show for 2013, then maybe they could show more drama during the day. Ten could air an encore (or even classic episodes) of Neighbours. They could even show classic episodes of E Street / Breakers / The Secret Life of us / short run series like The Surgeon. Until recently, Seven aired mostly Aussie Drama at 2pm (Blue Heelers / All Saints), among some American drama/ dramedies, before replacing it with The Doctor Show. Could work out for Ten, at any time during the day?

  2. The reason why the Circle wasn’t good enough to stay on TEN was because it only catered to women…men had no interest in this show. This is why it never reached over 75,000.

However, it was a really good show, so if they can bring something similar back, but with 2 male and 2 female hosts, then it will solve everyones problems!
It will easily get over 100,000 viewers!

  3. TEN has completely lost it! A network that is really struggling, they sure have not given themselves a good image for last couple of years and seem to be getting worse this year- I actually prefer watching the ABC & SBS instead of TEN there is probably only 1 show that I only watch on TEN (can of worms) other than that I don’t even waste my time with TEN a failing network. What a disaster of shows that they have brought on this year and have just failed with the ratings etc and now getting rid of staff…not a good look TEN the damage has been done I don’t think they could revive this network.

  4. I have a solution to Ten’s ratings woes. In 1992 Sydney radio station 2SM was forced by the Broadcasting Authority to play non-stop easy listening music tapes with no ads, news or back announcing for four months when problems arose with a change of ownership. That lasted for four months and ratings taken during that period showed a big increase.

Perhaps Ten should follow that lead and pull all programming and just show the test pattern with music. That would draw considerably more viewers than Paul Henry, The Shire, I Will Survive and all the other dross they’ve been showing.

  5. Agree The Circle repeats would rate higher
Nobody wants to see the American breakfast crap, it’s bad enough that we have to try and replicate it locally

  6. As an alternative to the breakfast shows i like channel surfing and see whats on during ET and the insider. The other morning there was an interview with barbra streisand and seth rogen talking about their new movie together so there is indeed some good stuff nestled in there.

  7. Agree an encore of the Circle would work well – I definitely think there is a place for a Project meets The Circle show on Ten during breakfast hours. Get rid of the pointless fluff of Sunrise and Today but make it easier to understand than ABC News Breakfast which is far too heavy.

  8. Does any network have the rights to show any shows from OWN? Was thinking of Oprah’s Next Chapter and the Sarah Ferguson show. I wouldn’t mind seeing that on FTA.

  9. A Strategy deficient Network without any leadership or broadcast experience.

This is making Seven and Nine look terribly good – no competition.

Shall not be long now guys………..

  10. I don’t watch TEN during the day at all. I don’t switch to TEN until the 5pm news.

Maybe TEN should just replay The Circle? It’ll probably rate higher.

  11. If that figure for Judge Judy is correct, how long before TEN schedules a Judge Judy Marathon 9am-11:30am every weekday )with a “best of” on weekends)? LOL.

  12. Things just go from bad to worse for Ten. They are probably being outrated by the digital channels with some of these programs in the schedule. An encore of The Project at 6am would be a good idea. They should then have a one hour morning news at 7am followed by ET and The Insider.

  13. Ten should try three back to back encores of the previous night’s “The Project” from 6am-9am.

They could run a dynamic news, weather and traffic crawl and time and temp along the bottom of the screen.

I’m sure it would rate more than that lineup – it could test the waters for a Project style format in the mornings, and also be great exposure for the 6.30 edition.

  14. Not surprised the numbers went down, what I don’t get is why TEN dumped ‘The Talk’ since it’s also an import and they obviously have paid for it. They were slowly catch up but now falling further behind once again.

Seriously what monkey made his programing choice?

There was a good story on 7:30 the other night asking the same questions as to why TEN has failed so bad in the last few years.
