New FUEL TV series follows The Crew

The Crew tells the behind-the-scenes story of Fighting Fear's surfer Mark Mathews and MMA fighter Vacuik.

Next year FUEL TV will screen a spin-off series from its AFI-nominated documentary Fighting Fear.

The Crew is a 10-part series from Media Garage and Virgin Produced, telling the behind-the-scenes story of big-wave surfer Mark Mathews, MMA fighter Vacuik and producer/musician Macario.

The first Australian production of the Virgin Group’s film and television arm, Virgin Produced, follows the inspiring journey of three best friends from the suburbs – Mark Mathews, Richie Vacuik and Macario De Souza as they struggle to overcome troubled childhoods and realise their dreams.

Helping them along the way are 11-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater, Red Hot Chili Peppers front-man Anthony Keidis and rapper Snoop Dogg.

FUEL TV channel manager Adam Howarth said: “This series is a game changer. Fighting Fear was a huge hit in Australia on the big screen and we are rapt to be the exclusive Australian broadcaster of its spin-off series The Crew.

We’re sure this series is going to resonate with our audience given the mix of surfing, mixed martial arts and music, which are all part of the fabric of FUEL TV.

It’s about real people trying to achieve extraordinary things and it will take our subscribers along for an amazing ride.”

The Media Garage’s Michael Lawrence said: “As a production company that focuses on real stories and authentic characters, we are really excited about the show. With so much ‘reality’ and observational TV around it’s cool to have something natural and unscripted that hasn’t really been done before. It’s the adventure/action sports version of Entourage – you never know which international celebrity will turn up in an episode.”

The 10 episodes will air each Sunday night at 9.00pm on FUEL TV from Sunday February 10, 2013.
