Seven weatherman unclear on forecast

As Giaan Rooney is set to begin at Seven News, what's the forecast for weatherman David Brown?

2012-12-21_0202Seven Melbourne weather presenter David Brown admits he is unclear if his role is secure, following confirmation Giaan Rooney begins as a summer presenter this Sunday night.

“It’s all a bit new to me but it’s unfortunately the nature of this bloody business called television,” he told the Herald Sun.

“I can’t say much. I’m not in a position (to).”

Seven news director Simon Pristel said, “David has a contract at Seven and he isn’t going anywhere, other than to have a holiday which starts tomorrow night.

“Nothing has changed with his status or role.”

But Rooney won a new role following tests which are also believed to have included footy WAGS Pia Miller and Alex Davis, and Miss Universe Australia winner and current Seven personality Scherri-Lee Biggs.

Rooney may not necessarily go head to head against former Nine stable-mate Livinia Nixon, given Nixon is expecting her second child.

  1. Do people really tune into a particular news service because of the weather person?
Seven’s Melbourne News has far more problems than the weather segment.
Where would I start listing them…….

  2. Since when does any TV network show any common sense or logic, all big business do not think or care about the viewer, it is all about making money. The viewer does not matter. It reminds of something someone said to me when I was in retail. Retail would be good if it wasn’t for the customers” TV networks think the same I am sure of it , otherwise they may treat the viewers with some respect. Talking about all that Mr Browne is good value informative TV.

  3. Brownie (a nickname that sounds a little unpleasant if you ask me) has that “taking a breath in the middle of a sentence, no breath at the end of a run-on sentence” Weatherman shtick down pat. It’d be a shame for him to disappear off our screens.

  4. David Brown is very qualified for the job but the problem is most viewers just want to know how hot or cold its going to be. My tip is they will go for a dumbed down weather report with a pretty girl. I think 7 should go with Sandy roberts as chief newsreader and let Peter Mitchell do sport like he did on Nine years ago. Sandy has a better connection with viewers.

  5. What else does David Brown do during the day for his job? (Apart from his radio duties, that is).

Surely compiling a weather report doesn’t take up that much time.

    1. I have always heard him doing Seven weather updates on breakfast radio, so he’s not just doing 5 mins of work. He’s been very friendly whenever I have met him and given his meteorological background it would be a shame to lose this. Seven does require change in 2013 to tackle Nine but it’s a question of whether such change may backfire. Nine Sydney learned this the hard way in dumping Mark Ferguson.

  6. “… Rooney won a new role following tests which are also believed to have included footy WAGS Pia Miller and Alex Davis, and Miss Universe Australia winner and current Seven personality Scherri-Lee Biggs”

I think that speaks volumes about the quality of Seven’s weather reports. Unless each have some sort of Meteorology qualification that I’m unaware of.
