The US adaptation of The Killing is set to have a third season after all, despite being axed by AMC.
Despite being axed in July, Variety now reports showrunner Veena Sud and executive producers Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin have begun work on a third season.
After a series premiere that generated strong ratings, numbers began to fall and there was an uproar from many viewers after the first-season finale failed to solve the show’s central murder mystery.
The new season, presumably with Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman returning as Seattle cops, is now expected to launch in the US in May, with production set to begin in a few months.
AMC is understood to have been swayed in part by the prospect of a partner coming in to help with the cost of licensing.
The show aired in Australia on ONE and was based on the Danish original of the same name.

It was not bad TV but an utterly pointless remake. Why bother when the original was and is so good – watching series 3 of the Danish original at the moment and it’s just as good as series 1.
Great news. Both series were dark and absorbing.
I loved both seasons. The pace was fine, the mystery was great and loved everything about the series. So happy it’s coming back for another season.
The pace was definitely a problem, but that could have been minor had they wrapped up the case in the first season.
same here, I tried to get through the first 6 eps and that was a chore! so boring, don’t know why people love it so much.
I was hoping this show would stay axed. Watched the first episode and hated it
AMC have such great series; this show is a blight on their schedule
