Returning: Packed to the Rafters

Seven is returning Packed to the Rafters two weeks before the start of official ratings.

2013-01-17_2023Seven is returning Packed to the Rafters later this month.

It will begin two weeks before the start of official ratings.

We pick up from S5E11.

Tonight on PACKED TO THE RAFTERS, it’s crunch time for Ben (HUGH SHERIDAN) – is it really the right time to move on and begin his new life with Emma (ZOE CRAMMOND), or is he simply papering over the huge hole left in his life by Mel (ZOE VENTOURA)?

For Ben, it finally feels like the right time to move on from Mel and start a new chapter with Emma, beginning with the purchase of their country cottage. Emma is prepared to put aside her misgivings about the rapid pace at which this is all happening and she and Ben excitedly book an appointment with the bank to set up a loan. But when Ben lends his support to Carbo (GEORGE HOUVARDAS) and Retta (HANNAH MARSHALL) by taking them to the hospital for an ultrasound appointment, he begins to reminisce about Mel and the surprising intensity of his feelings throws Ben into a tailspin. Will he be able to put the past behind him for good, or is now simply not the right time to move on?

8:45pm Tuesday January 29 on Seven.

  1. Will 7 begin to air the rest of season 5, take a break for Easter and ride out that season till they launch their new drama or return another show? The scheduling of Rafters last year was a mess and I don’t like this tactic 7 has of finishing a series mid season (with Rafters being the main culprit) then continuing on in a new ratings year. As much as 7 know they have a solid following for Rafters, they ought to not be too confident as mis treatment of the viewers will cause many to switch off.

  2. bunch of whingers in here, all the ‘dying horse’ and ‘no one cares’ comments are completely unqualified, it is the #1 rating aussie drama on tv by a long shot.

and the show has been in the same timeslot for 5 years, would have to be one of the most un-erraticly scheduled shows on tv.

  3. So happy. I still love this show. I like the first half of the year on 7. MKR, Downton Abbey, Revenge and PTTR. I dont care what people say its still a good australian show.

  4. It was about time anyway. They made a mistake over the Summer of using Greys to replace Winners and Losers when even repeats of Rafters no matter how old they are would have cost them next to nothing.

  5. Because it has been so long since we last saw PTTR, and they’re picking it up mid way through the season, what are the chances that seven have used their brains and have decided to do a recap when the episode begins of where we left it? Last year when it returned, I had absolutely no idea what had gone on, and it took me a few episodes to put it all together, which ruined those early episodes. Not going to hold my breath.

  6. This is good news for fans of the show after the way Seven have jerked around its scheduling the past few years. Also they’ll probably need the timeslot space for A Place To Call Home later this year.

  7. I don’t understand the strategy in starting shows with a large fanbase before the ratings period. It still gets over a million an episode which is ideal in this technological age

  8. Let’s see if they keep it on past Easter…will be interesting how it rates given it’s been off-air for so long & viewers will struggle to remember the last storylines

  9. Starting two weeks early could be a good move if they show all of the 24 eps (12 from S5 & all from S6) back to back and then follow with W&L. That way fans would/could be happy!
If 7 want another season or want to finish on a high a continuous season would be great!

  10. I wish the powers that be would make a decision on the end of packed to the rafters and finish the series on the right note. I like that fact that we have been informed that offspring is going to be around for two more seasons. Therefore no surprises.

  11. And we all know Seven will use the “All New Season” line when promoting this. I just hope it’s a good sign they will show more than the remainder of S5.

IMO we’ll get 12 eps of PttR then W&L will return and at the end of the year we’ll get another 3 months of the Rafters.

What Seven should do is have a recap show to remind viewers what has happened on the show recently.

  12. In the last couple of years the networks have started some key shows a week or two early to get them established in key slots, and use that to promote their other shows and make life difficult for the competition.

The interesting thing is that they had MKR, Downton Abbey, Revenge and Last Resort promos running all summer, they didn’t have Packed to the Rafters until recently.

Either it was a late decision or they wanted to surprise their competitors.
