House Rules: first promo

Video: Seven has released its first promo for House Rules, its new renovation series.

Seven has released its first promo for House Rules, its new renovation series.

As Head of Programming Angus Ross recently told TV Tonight, House Rules is a big stripped show from the team that brought you MKR. They’ve now moved into the home makeover space.

“The questions with this is ‘Would you hand over your keys to a bunch of strangers to complete transform your home and win a life-changing prize?’

“There’s a hell of a lot at stake and you need to watch the first three minutes of the show, I would suggest. It’s a life-changing prize.”

Sounds like this one is set to run after Easter, which could pit it against The Voice -a tall order.

It looks like it’s shooting to the heart of middle Australia, which is where Seven wants to be.

Thoughts?

  1. I watched as they all renovated the New Town, Hobart house, a few weeks ago, looks like it is going to be a good show. Was a bit of an inconvince in the streets around it, traffic and noise wise for the neighbours but was over and done in a relative short space of time compared to other renovation shows. Can’t wait for it to come on TV.

  2. I think the promo is bad because to me, it doesn’t clearly define what the show is about. The promo looks like what Seven did years ago with the Real Seachange, which flopped. They should ramp up the competition element of the show, say it is from the makers of My Kitchen Rules and vaguely try to explain how the format works (is it state against state, who are the judges, what is the prize etc). I know it’s only a teaser but it’s pretty bland and looks likes a factual not a reality competition program.

  3. They keep saying “it would change my life” and “it would change everything”…what is “it”??? Awesome all-white cast too, guess Ch9 aren’t the only white-bred network anymore, huh?

  4. They look so distant, the element of the block that works is they are all in the same area so they compete/get to know each other etc….it cant be like MKR where you go to each others houses and eat their food…. having said that the production looked sharp and crisp and the graphic look impressive.

  5. hmm… the makers of a succesful cooking franchise branch out into a renovaton show… I wonder if it will go the same way as The Renovators? …in that people try to forget it ever happened!

  6. People are funny about formats being ‘copy and pasted’ into different situations.
The Renovators was really masterchef with power tools and hard hats…and we know how that ended up!

  7. Very tall order pitting it against The Voice, but something tells me that Seven’s carefully perfected method of appealing to middle Australia will make sure this resonates.

“They key to a whole new life” already separates it from The Block, and could give it a nice human edge against the fanfare of The Voice.

Good start! And not a bitchy ethnic couple in sight 😉
