Jacki Weaver in CBS comedy pilot

Jacki Weaver has been cast as a matriarch in a CBS comedy pilot The McCarthys.

2013-02-08_1014Jacki Weaver’s career resurgence continues to go from strength to strength.

She has been cast in a CBS comedy pilot The McCarthys, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The pilot is described as a family comedy about a loud, sports-crazed Boston family, with Weaver playing the mother of the McCarthys, Marjorie. She’s described as loving, exhausted and having no filter who enjoys having her son keep her company when her husband Arthur (Rescue Me) and other kids are off coaching basketball games.

The single-camera comedy is written by Brian Gallivan (Are You There, Chelsea?).

Since appearing in Animal Kingdom, Weaver has enjoyed international success, including two Oscar nominations plus a Golden Globe and Screen Actor’s Guild Award -the latter for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

It’s a long way from Alvin Purple, Caddie and They’re Playing Our Song, but frankly we couldn’t be prouder….

Meanwhile, TV Tonight hears whispers Derryn Hinch may have recently filmed an interview with his former wife in the US for Seven.

  1. So glad to see Ms Weaver having this success and recognition. Who would have thought the “I Love Onions” girl would go on to be a two time Oscar nomineee?

  2. I really hope this show takes off and gets picked up by the networks over there. Hope we get it here, and it doesn’t go to Foxtel. Poor Rachel Taylor doesn’t seem able to cop a break over there, 2 shows she’s been in have been cancelled. Bet she wishes she’d stuck with Grey’s Anatomy and not taken the Charlies’s Angels role. Grey’s Anatomy was already a hit and popular, where as Charlies’s Angels was a bit of a risk. It’s a shame as I actually enjoyed it.
