Living Black reaches 10 years

Living Black returns in March, now premiering on NITV with a replay on SBS.

KARLA STUDIO_3592_REGRADELiving Black returns in March reporting on current issues from an Indigenous perspective, premiering on NITV with an SBS replay.

To celebrate a decade of Living Black the 2013 premiere episode will look back to when the show began in 2003 and how it has progressed to the present day.

Executive Producer Karla Grant, who has been with the program since its inception, will take audiences through the past decade as she presents on the many issues covered. Some of the original video journalists including Tanya Denning, Kris Flanders and Angela Bates will also reminisce on a selection of their big stories and share their most memorable experiences as part of the Living Black team.

Karla said: “Living Black has come a long way since it first aired. Back then it was one of the only news and current affairs programs to use video journalism to tell Indigenous stories. Along with Dateline, we paved the way for this style of journalism in Australia.

“The program has evolved significantly since we started. We have moved from covering lots of Indigenous news and current affairs across Australia to focusing more on in-depth coverage of topical and ongoing issues such as social justice, health, housing and employment; as well as covering stories of positive achievement.”

“I’m looking forward to continuing to bring these stories to light and am excited about joining forces with NITV and together becoming a real force in telling Indigenous stories to all Australians.”

With Karla at the helm, the Living Black team includes video journalists Allan Clarke, Larteasha Griffen and newcomer Hannah Hollis.

“We welcome Living Black to their new home in prime time on NITV. This will add to the richness of our programming and also further ensures all Australian’s have access to this country’s longest running Indigenous current affairs program,” said Tanya Denning, Channel Manager, NITV.

In 2013, Living Black will provide comprehensive and insightful coverage of Indigenous issues that are relevant for all Australians. From topical news and current affairs, to features examining stories in more detail, as well as showcasing and celebrating Indigenous triumphs – Living Black gives all Australians a place to learn more about the nation’s first peoples.

Returns Tuesdays at the new time of 7.30pm on NITV from 12 March.

Fridays at 2.30pm and Sundays at 4.30pm on SBS ONE
