‘Spillard’ drama in the works

A drama on Julia Gillard's 2010 toppling of Kevin Rudd as Prime Minister is in development.

2013-02-02_2343Writer Bob Ellis (Wildside, The Gillies Republic, Newsfront, The Nostradamus Kid) is writing a drama script on Julia Gillard’s 2010 toppling of Kevin Rudd as Prime Minister, for Beyond Productions.

The Sunday Telegraph reports Tony Tilse (Underbelly, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, City Homicide) will direct with Stuart Quin (The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert, Circle of Lies, Frauds) to produce.

“Everyone thinks they know what happened with the rise and fall of Rudd, but like a true iceberg, 90 per cent is invisible,” Quin said.

“I think we can promise some revelations in the sometimes hidden world of federal politics.”

Ellis has been a speechwriter for written speeches for Bob Carr, Paul Keating and Kim Beazley, and writes a regular political blog. He has has written two books on his experiences of the Labor party.

It is understood initial approaches have been made to ‘prominent actors’ to play the lead roles although none have been finalised.

No network has yet been attached to the untitled project.

  1. Can the “Real Story” ever be told while Ms Gillard and Mr Rudd along with so many others are still so active in politics? Probably never!

But Mr Ellis and Mr Hamlyn of ‘Beyond’ may have more important immediate issues, especially the estimated ’12 month production time'( if you believe that, I ask how far do you think pigs can fly) because 12 months will affect initial funding, and completed sales potential(many many more $$$$$ if only 7 months)

As 12 months puts it after the next election, where it may only be ‘Interesting’, but “Any Time” before the 14-9-2013, gives it the potential to be ‘Politically Damaging’.

Also the reference to the 90% invisible portion of an iceberg, and its long known unseen dangers, but isn’t that is also dependant entirely, ‘If ‘ ‘ When and ‘Who’ it crashes into, and if ‘Anybody’ sinks as a result?

  2. I think it’s too soon to get the real story of what happened. Give it a few years and we may get some big revelations when some involved are distanced from politics.
