Over 8,000 fans have signed a UK petition to save BBC drama The Hour, after it was axed by the broadcaster.
Petition creator Alice Stamataki from Durham pleaded:
Critics and fans from all over the world adore this show. It’s unique, it’s gripping – and, most importantly, it shows the BBC is still willing to deal with heavyweight issues. If the BBC hopes to contend with other high-quality channels, such as HBO, it desperately needs The Hour on its team.
The BBC announced the axing this week after a raft of renewals and new title announcements.
The first series launched with 2.89 million viewers in the UK in July 2011, but the show’s second run opened with just 1.68 million.
Many fans have also cited the second season’s shocking cliffhanger ending, which left viewers unsure of Freddie’s fate. That episode aired last week in Australia on ABC1.
The petition has also attracted fans from US, Brazil, Japan and Poland.

Maybe Netflix could pick it up? Have got series 2, won’t watch now until there is a series 3.
Why would ITV ever pick up a failed BBC show that was designed to show how wonderful the BBC is, and how inferior and stupid ITV and its viewers are?
Any chance ITV could pick up the rights to do another series? I certainly want to find out if Freddie is alive or dead.
Sadly 8,000 wont save much need to be at least 20 times that to raise an eye brow……..
