Adam Boland joins TEN

Adam Boland joins TEN as Director of Morning Television.

TEN Adam Boland 1The longest rumour in the industry has come true today, with Adam Boland being appointed as TEN’s Director of Morning Television.

After announcing he would leave Seven at the end of February, he joins TEN on March 18, reporting to Head of News and Current Affairs, Anthony Flannery.

TEN issued a statement this morning including a quote from incoming CEO Hamish McLennan (already listed as CEO):

“We are very excited about hiring Adam, who is one of the best television news executives in Australia,” Network Ten Chief Executive Officer, Hamish McLennan, said.

“The appointment of Adam to this new role is further evidence of our commitment to signing the best talent for TEN. Adam will further bolster our already very strong TEN News team.”

Boland said, “I’m truly excited about my new role at Network TEN. I firmly believe in Hamish and his management team, the plans they have for the company and their strong commitment to innovative programming.

“Frankly, the decision to join them was a no-brainer for me. I know it’s a place where I can have some real fun.”

Boland is widely regarded as having revolutionised Breakfast television after leading Sunrise to glory over Today.

  1. wow it has actually surprised me seven let him leave. I thought they would have thrown more money his way.

So I am guessing new breakfast and morning tv is on the way back to ten? lets hope they don’t f*** it up this time.

  2. @ Secret Squirrel, perhaps I didn’t efficiently articulate my points.

I estimated supplementary elements attached with his resignation. I never thought his next endeavour was going to be at an ailing network.

Adam has tenacity in every inch, nerve and fibre of his body and loves to be challenged. Only time will demonstrate if he is the Messiah of morning television and a commodity Seven didn’t bank on by means of a worthy promotion or if these movements are nothing more than a game of musical chairs.

  3. What a surprise. Did anyone other than Danny believe that he really had no other plans than an overseas holiday?

Best of luck to him but Ten’s problems won’t suddenly disappear if they bring back ‘Breakfast’ without Henry.

  4. Why doesn’t Ten star to warm the slot up now with 3 back to back encores of the previous nights “The Project”

    6am The Project
    7am The Project
    8am The Project

Add a live news, weather and traffic ticker / flipper.

It wouldn’t don’t rate any worse than the junk Ten has there now, would warm up the slot and expose “Project” to more viewers to give 6.30pm airing a boost.

  5. This is good news….If TEN is to try breakfast TV again…He is your man.

But it needs to be different and fresh. Not set in the ten news room.

It is strange, considering the ratings breakfast TV gets – it is important to help promote other shows.

Please do not suggest Sarah Murdoch host. I can see L’s smile from here. Sarah is not TV host material

Breakfast’s biggest problem was Paul henry and the 1st set. Without Paul, it would still be on air!

Well done Adam…Look forward to hearing more in coming months.!

  6. I had to twice examine this editorial. I concede the actuality the rumour has been floated around for a long time but in no way did I expect it to materialise. In any event this is a deep loss to Seven.

Mr Boland is undeniably very bold and fearless to take on this huge duty. I’ve said this before but now I believe beyond a reasonable doubt Adam was assured Peter Meakin’s former job in lieu of staying with the network and cease litigation.

David, answering this question is up to construal but do you think this was the work of Hamish or his predecessor Mr Warburton?

  7. @steviem
Probably a little harash to make that judgement on the day before mardi gras weekend.
The weather man doesnt dress like a character from Priscilla everyday!

  8. He’s about 12 months too late.

As people on this site say time and time again, there is room in the market for a Project/Circle type breakfast show. Get Hamish McDonald, someone like Carrie Bickmore or Sarah Murdoch with regular panelists and make it fun, fresh, relevant, but news-y. No ‘shock jock’ segments, no interviews with professors at Unis to discuss Syria, no cash cow, no weatherman stunts. If Chrissie Swan wants to do breakfast radio I reckon she’ll be interested in breakfast TV.

There are plenty of people looking for a breakfast show that is lighter than ABC24 but newsier and more serious than Sunrise and Today.

    Good luck to you.

  9. mmm, TEN could do to fix 6-9pm before it worries about 6-9am I think…
Not that my opinion counts for much, but Ive always thought quite highly of Adam.
    Good Luck to him

  10. I wish Adam all the best in his new venture, and I wonder if he will miss Kochie keeping him abreast of things at Sunrise.

Someone should immediately try to lock in Shaun Micallef for any breakfast show, and tell all the right wingers to POQ and do what they do best, that being, anti gov. sh_t stirring with the like souls of Bolt, Hughes, Price, McDonald and sadly it also seems Kath, of ‘Defeat Good Press’ fame, but the next couple of Sundays will tell us more.

  11. Well said gregaus. I was thinking the exact same thing. The previously “cool” network is increasingly becoming a right wing arm of the Murdoch/Rinehart empire. The Bolt Report, Meet The Press and even The Project is being infested with conservative commentators. Good luck Adam indeed!

  12. Adam is a terrific acquisition for Ten, however, how will he cope with the News Ltd-isation of the Network thanks to Lachlan Murdoch hiring staff from his fathers empire to run the network? Good luck Adam! You’ll need it.

  13. It would be great to see The Project of breakfast TV, a Triple J-style breakfast show that actually differentiates itself.

The problem with Breakfast from last year was simply the format was too similar to Seven and Nine, and there is no room for another me-too.

  14. I can see this ending in tears. Your 12mths to late Adam.
Also there was alot of luck & good timing in regards to his Sunrise success.
Doubt it will be mirrored at Ten.

  15. I must’ve pre-empted this article with my comment in the Dear Hamish, seriously post:

I think Channel Ten needs a new morning lineup quicksmart to help promote its other shows.

6AM Breakfast show – Melbourne based newsy show with Waleed Aly and Gorgi Coghlan.

9AM Morning show – Sydney based health show with Andrew Rochford and Michelle Bridges.

11AM Morning News – Based wherever, get it hosted by a fresh face.

    Launch it straight after Easter!

  16. Big gain.
I watched Sunrise today since Pell has taken over there is to much gay themed stories. I am a gay man but I dont like Pell is running a gay – marriage agenda and the way he is doing it.
