Barry Crocker to help find new vocalist for Neighbours

Original Neighbours singer, Barry Crocker, will join the judging panel to find a new theme tune vocalist.

bCrockerOriginal Neighbours theme tune singer, the legendary Barry Crocker will help decide the next voice of the show’s revamped theme song.

Crocker, recently seen on ABC2’s The Strange Calls, will join the judging panel for a contest being conducted for the ELEVEN soap. Five finalists each from Australia and the UK have been competing for the prize of being selected as the new voice of the show.

One singer representing both countries will perform in Melbourne on April 8 before Barry Crocker, Executive Producer Richard Jasek and Music Director Chris Pettifer.

Crocker sang on the original opening titles from 1985 to 1992.

“The Neighbours theme song is iconically Australian and recognised around the world. Having sung the original theme song 28 years ago, I am delighted to be involved in finding the next voice of Neighbours,” he said.

The new theme is a variation on the original Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent composition, with its new voice to debut next month in Australia and May in the UK.

In unrelated news Jackie Trent has recently made statements that she is angry about Tony Hatch “almost denying my existence: as a loving wife; as his confidant; as his professional partner in music we wrote together over 30 years.”

Hatch is to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame but not former co-partner Jackie Trent.

  1. Great to see that Barry is still around!

It’s good that Neighbours still has a theme song, miss the H&A one, always helped me to get in the mood for the show.

Have enjoyed Neighbours lately but not sure about this new song business. Will be good to get the polished version.
