TV tops Facebook survey

Television shows are the most popular topic with Facebook fans by a long stretch, according to a recent survey.

2013-03-02_0052Television shows are the most popular topic with Facebook fans by a long stretch, according to the latest Australian Facebook Performance report.

TV Programs snare first place with 9,355,912 accumulated fans, with approximately 4 million more fans than nearest rivals Retail – Fashion (5.5m). Snackfoods takes third place  at 4.8m.

The survey by Online Circle Digital was conducted during mid-January to mid-February 13, yet despite the summer non-ratings TV shows still out-ranked all other topics.

ABC’s Bananas in Pyjamas retained the top spot with the most Facebook fans (2,032,296) of any category. Home and Away came in second place and remained the most talked about fan page on Facebook.

“TV and social media are no longer disparate entities. In fact, TV viewing has become social currency. Networks, TV programs and radio are the new social media players alongside brands,” said Lucio Ribeiro, Lead Strategist at Online Circle Digital.

  1. @Bogues

    Having never used face book, because my bathroom mirror is as much as I can stand, I must ask are you saying MC or MCP please;

If its MCP, does that mean they have found a button on their remote, that can automatically predict and mute 2 out of 3 words repeated by Marco?

  2. It speaks volumes when oner 2 million people like
    Bananas in Pyjamas?

Is it any wonder we get reality shows shoved down our necks.

Please HHIS was a boring mediocre show at best!

  3. People are not likely to ‘unlike’ either, which is why Hey Hey still has likers. Although foxtel saw a massive downside to having the social media page, when used well they can be useful, ten has to address this.

  4. I think its funny that Hey Hey it’s Saturday have 632,000 likes on their page but haven’t made a post since September last year. They have so much opportunity to do things with so many people liking their page but do absolutely nothing about it except to occasionaly have a competition.

  5. @Bogues – hah. Altho’ to be fair, you’re comparing MC fans with MCP viewers – not quite the same thing.

David, you should run a survey of TVT fans to find out what the most popular topic is. I bet television would be right up there, possibly edging out Andrew Bolt and Motorsport. 😉

  6. That is very telling that Ten and Eleven are nowhere in the Top 10 of TV networks with Facebook fans.

Considering their demos – they really should be.

Lifestye YOU and Channel V and ABC beat them out?

It goes to show you how badly run Ten’s social media is.

    Likewise for Seven and 7Mate
