1000 episodes for The Project

For a while there it looked like this show might not make 100 episodes.

2013-04-29_2028Tonight The Project, chalks up its 1000th episode.

That’s despite a truckload of timeslot changes and ratings challenges.

It hasn’t always been an easy ride for this Roving Enterprises show, but it has managed to survive against the odds and even cemented Carrie Bickmore’s place on the box, regularly nabbing Logie nominations.

We celebrate our 1000th episode on Tuesday night as we cross to Kelly Osbourne in Sydney, who is in town to relaunch the iconic magazine Cleo.

Actor Stephen Curry joins us at the desk on Wednesday to talk about his ambassador role for the Live Below The Line campaign, raising awareness about extreme poverty across the globe. We’ll find out how Stephen plans to survive on two dollars a day as he joins thousands of Australians raising money for this worthwhile cause.

On Thursday night, we’ll take a look at the rental housing crisis in Perth. With the Western Australian economy on fire thanks to the mining boom, around 1200 people are heading west each week, putting pressure on the state’s housing supply. With low and middle income workers being priced out of the market, we investigate what can be done to turn Perth’s housing affordability crisis around.

We wrap up the week on Friday as Jennifer Hawkins joins us at the desk to talk about her new swimwear range, Cozi as she takes us behind the scenes at the photoshoot.

6:30pm weeknights on TEN.

  1. Oh and I forgot to add, happy 1000 episodes Projectors! Ten’s slashed and burned a lot of good staff/programs, but you’ve gotta give them credit where credit is due. I am so grateful they’ve been very un-Ten and actually stuck with The Project.

  2. The Project is actually my favourite show on Australian TV. It’s clever, funny and tells it like it like it is. I’ve gushed about it far too much on this site, so I’ll leave it at that and add that I cannot fathom how any thinking person would rather watch Today Tonight or ACA!

  3. The Project has street cred as well, with a Walkley to its name, and also video quoted by ABC’s Insiders, and also last night’s Mediawatch. Congratulations!

  4. It took a while to settle down, but it’s in a good groove now. It’s an easy show to have on in the background, although I find Charlie’s endless supply of self-righteousness a bit hard to swallow.

  5. I try to watch the show every day, but they’re layering on the sappy stuff a bit thick lately, which is a bit off-putting.

Also, I’ve noticed that whenever Dave Hughes is replaced by a different random comedian it makes the show that much more watchable. Hughesy can be funny, but others do it so much better.

  6. Happy 1000th to The Project..! Tremendous effort by a fantastic programme. I’m glad TEN have stuck with it. Despite the various time slots, it has been a consistent, genuine quality presentation and is definitely where my tv is tuned at 6.30.. well done guys!

  7. I know it cops a lot of flak, but I like The Project and have watched it from day one, through all its name changes and time shifts. The only times I’ve missed it have been when I was overseas. I like how they can be funny and tell the news in a humourous manner and be serious when they need to be.

  8. I really enjoy The Project. I wish its ratings reflected its quality.

When i think of how many people watch TT and ACA, and yet a solid show like this is so overlooked, it just don’t seem fair.

I like the way it delivers the news in an easy to digest format without resorting to being trashy tv. If something is a rumour or unconfirmed, then they will make sure they clearly state so and remind the viewer.

I like how it educates you about the history behind stories during it’s reports (so i don’t always feel like an idiot for not being up to date on certain issues).

And i think it finds a nice balance between trying to do something of value and never taking itself too seriously.

It doesn’t always get things 100% right, but i think it has a pretty good batting average imo, and is a hell of a lot better than a lot else on air.

  9. I love The Project and am so happy that they have survived! It offers all the news stories of the day, as well as current affairs stories, but all aiming them at an audience that doesn’t just want story details that are provided by other news programs, It offers a debate between hosts on the stories and their meaning to the public. Not to mention having great permanent and casual hosts that offer opinions from all points of view. Happy birthday The Project! Here’s to a 1000 more!
