Another ratings week to Seven

Ratings: Nine and TEN need to start making some moves soon to avoid bad news in coming weeks.

2013-04-28_2255Seven has taken out another ratings week, its ninth this year.

With 40 ratings weeks up for grab, Nine will need to begin to chalk up a few wins soon if it’s going to have a shot at weeks won and Total People for the year.

By the same token TEN will need to improve soon if it is to stop 12 months of losses to the ABC, which took effect in mid-August.

Seven won 16-39 but Nine won 18-49 and 25-54.

Seven won all cities except Sydney, which fell to Nine.

Seven also won every night except Sunday, won by Nine. ABC bettered TEN on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

My Kitchen Rules (Wednesday: 1.78m) was best for Seven with its other brands being Seven News (Sun: 1.47m, weeknights: 1.25m), Downton Abbey and Packed to the Rafters (both 1.3m), Revenge (1.08m), Today Tonight (1.06m), Home and Away (985,000) and Better Homes and Gardens (929,000).

The Voice (Sun: 2.00m) was the week’s top show. Nine’s other brands were 60 Minutes (1.5m), Nine News (Sun: 1.39m, weeknights: 1.23m), House Husbands (1.04m), ACA (972,000), The Big Bang Theory (highest: 902,000) and The Following (715,000).

ABC News (weeknight: 926,000, Sat: 846,000) led ABC1 followed by Inspector George Gently (803,000), Australian Story (782,000), Last Tango in Halifax (751,000), The Checkout (750,000) and Silent Witness (747,000).

Elementary (800,000) was TEN’s best then NCIS (653,000), TEN News (614,000), Law and Order: SVU (573,000), The Biggest Loser (Sun: 553,000), Modern Family (highest: 518,000) and Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals (515,000).

A coding error appears to have affected the numbers for Who Do You Think You Are? which originally pulled 411,000 on Tuesday night. In final figures it only exists as a repeat on 260,000 which is probably an average between two screenings. Other SBS shows were Food Safari (384,000), Gourmet Farmer (374,000), Eat, Fast and Live Longer (358,000) and Treasures Decoded (265,000).

  1. The Voice should win Channel 9 days early in the week. They have Howzaat II coming which will help with a couple of Sundays and The Block.

Channel 7’s depth should keep in touch though and The X Factor to finish it looks a tough for 9 to win. They have kept half a series of Bone and Castle up their sleeve and will have lots of stuff they can run in October if they need it.

Channel 10 well they have Masterchef, and some local dramas and Homeland that all rate 700k at best. The ABC has twice the budget of Ten (though more responsibilities) so it is looking like Ten is the 4th network.
