Cory Monteith enters rehab

Glee star Cory Monteith has checked himself into rehabilitation for an undisclosed substance addiction.

“He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery,” his representatives told US media.

20th Century Fox TV and those connected to Glee have lent their support for his recovery.

“Cory is a beloved member of the Glee family and we fully support his decision to seek treatment,” 20th Century Fox TV said in a statement. “Everyone at the show wishes him well and looks forward to his return.”

Co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk said on Twitter:

Murphy: “I am so proud of Cory Monteith and love and support him 100%.’
Falchuk: “Cory is like a son to me. He knows I love him.”

Actress Lea Michele, who is involved in a real-life relationship with Monteith, said: “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”

Monteith, 30, previously checked into rehab at the age of 19. At the time he said, “I don’t want kids to think it’s okay to drop out of school and get high, and they’ll be famous actors, too.”

Glee is currently filming its fourth season. Production on the remaining two episodes is expected to continue as scheduled.

  1. Trying not to sound glib here as I am sure we all wish Cory all the best—but the standard of the scripts this season and the way his character has been so badly handled is enough to send anyone to rehab.
