Logies 2013: Random Acts of Carpetness Pt 2

Pt 2: Red Carpet chats with Jules Lund, Claudia Karvan, Lisa McCune, Larry Emdur and more.

Photo1 (36)Here is the second and final part of my Logies Red Carpet mayhem.

Lots more interesting bits and pieces if you read between the lines…

Jules Lund on hosting both the Red Carpet for Nine and radio interviews for FOX FM as well:

“All the questions I can’t get away with asking on Nine (I can do for FOX). Catriona Rowntree’s face when I asked her some questions she wasn’t expecting! When I dropped the word ‘vagina’ she wondered if it was going live.”

Claudia Karvan on her busy year and the upcoming ABC Drama Broken Shore:

The Broken Shore is a great script. (Writer) Andrew Knight is fabulous, Rowan Woods is a consummate director, it’s a lovely cast with Don Hany and Tony Hayes. Peter Temple is a Miles Franklin winner.”

With Puberty Blues, Time of Our Lives, A Better Man is life far too hectic?

“Not really, compared to when I produce and act. That’s business at a whole different scale. So when I’m just acting it’s a breeze.”

Photo1 (5)Susie Porter on what we can expect in the next season of Puberty Blues?

“I actually don’t know, but I prefer to be surprised.

“Puberty Blues was one of my all-time favourite things to ever shoot. I absolutely loved it.”

Photo1 (6)Carrie Bickmore on falling for a certain industry April Fool’s Day gag:

“I was in Dubai and I clicked on TV Tonight and I thought ‘Oh my God!’ And then I thought, ‘What? Charlie?’ and then I started reading down and I thought, ‘David!’”

What are people asking her on the Red Carpet?

“It’s overwhelming but I have to say I’m a lot calmer than I was last year.

“For me it’s just about making it from that end of the Red Carpet to the end without falling over, without stepping on someone’s dress and without forgetting to suck everything in and smile.”

Photo1 (28)Lisa McCune on turning Producer for Reef Doctors and whether she sees herself producing again:

“Yeah absolutely, I’ve got a few bits and pieces going on. What was really great for me was seeing the way the cast was put together. The cast of Reef Doctors is what will be its strength. It’s an amazing cast and they will fall in love with all these guys. We’ve found a whole new generation of stars with this show.”

Reef Doctors‘ Andrew Ryan on Lisa McCune as a producer:

“She was a demon. She kept wanting us to call her Maggie Doyle all the time. We had to polish her Gold Logies once a week.”

Photo1 (7)Jonny Pasvolksy on the reactions he’s had to Mr and Mrs Murder:

“People are thankful that there’s something very different on TV. Its strangeness, its quirkiness, it’s functional…

“I’ve just finished a shoot on Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and I’m up north developing a new theatre show.”

Lucy Honigman from Mr and Mrs Murder on the show and what’s up next:

“Nicola and Charlie love each other very much and I think that reads really well. I had so much fun shooting it.

“I’m based in Los Angeles now so I’ll be going there and working on a couple of projects.”

Photo1 (20)

Photo1 (15)9 year old, Edwina Royce from House Husbands and who she was up against for Best New Talent Female:

“I guess a lot of people. I don’t really know the names!

“I think someone from Puberty Blues.”

Had she been advised who to thank if she wins?

“No, but I’ve got a speech prepared though!”

Julia Morris on her chances at winning a Logie:

“I’ll be practicing my face for when somebody else’s name is read out!”

Photo1 (10)Anjali Rao from Dateline on her previous work with CNN and TEN:

“I was based in Hong Kong with Anna Coren, my bestie.

“And I was doing The Project on Channel TEN. I was filling in for Carrie quite a lot at the desk.”

Asher Keddie on her Who Do You Think You Are? episode for SBS and whether she had to turn on the waterworks:

“I didn’t have to, I tried desperately not to, but it was almost impossible. It truly was an emotional journey. There were a lot of surprises in there for me.”

Did the episode reveal any obvious links to her own career?

“And some big answers actually. Artistically there were some pretty amazing parallels. It’s a big experience doing that show, I’m really glad I did it.”

Photo1 (11)

Photo1 (16)Larry Emdur on whether The Morning Show has any excursion episodes coming up:

“We are looking at another really exciting year. We travelled quite a bit last year. We had a great time in LA.

“So Kylie and I have a proposal to the network to move the show there permanently!”

Photo1 (4)

Photo1 (34)Ada Nicodemiou on whether there is more Please Marry My Boy:

“I’m trying to think what I can say! But that’s sort of giving it away, isn’t it?

“Yes I am.

“I’ve never presented before but it was a great experience and quite nerve wracking. It’s nice to be doing something new and different and learning. So I hope to get better and better as the series progresses. I still don’t feel like I’ve perfected it, but I’ll get there.”

Photo1 (25)Catriona Rowntree, who has just returned from South America, on her future with Getaway and rumours the show was axed:

“Someone said in the paper it was finishing up but it just shifted.

“For years I was on a Nine contract but at the end of last year I went freelance, however nothing changed.

“They keep calling, they keep asking me to work and I keep turning up.”

Is being a travel presenter a dream job?

“I can say I am so grateful for the job, but I just had 3 weeks in South America and I didn’t have one day off. It took me 60 hours to get to the first location, it was an absolute nightmare and I’m probably still jet-lagged out of my mind. But who’s going to complain?

“I finished the trip off in Rio, I met Tom Cruise and I am grateful.”

  1. Maybe Mapia was talking about the photos? None of them are captioned and nearly half of them are unrelated to the interviews. Obviously this isn’t a problem, but there’s really no need to attack Mapia over this.

  2. Asher Keddie’s ep. of Who Do You Think You Are was excellent, as are all the eps. from this show. Not only covers the participants history but also Australian history-it’s terrific.
