More Underbelly for US TV

Another Underbelly series will air in the US on subscription TV.

badness_US Satellite subscription service DirecTV has acquired Underbelly: Badness and will launch the series in June.

DirecTV has screened earlier Underbelly seasons before.

The franchise has now been sold into some 150 territories.

UK distributor sold the first three seasons of the scripted series before ITV Studios stepped in and took the rights to the fourth season, Underbelly: Razor.

DRG also has the rights to Underbelly: Squizzy.

In 2010 it was announced a US version of Underbelly would screen on Starz but so far nothing has emerged.

  1. They’d probably have to sub-title our version for the US, the accents are often so broad I’d appreciate sub-titles myself.

I do wish producers/directors would consider this when making any local programs. There has to be a happy compromise between a broad Oz accent and one everyone can understand (including us), without resorting to posh British!

Actors such as Matt Nable and Don Hany are terrific, but both are very hard to understand.

  2. Wow, that’s great, I didn’t realise they showed Underbelly in the US. It never gets mentioned on ET or other entertainment shows over there. Always seems we show their shows, but they don’t show ours.

  3. Actually DirecTV is not a channel – it’s a satellite platform and service provider (like Foxtel)

DirectV carries hundreds of channels and networks.

Underbelly airs on Audience Network – think of it as DirecTV’s owned and operated showcase
