Nine announces new drama, Love Child.

Updated: Nine announces an 8 part drama set in Kings Cross in 1969.

2013-04-24_1635Nine took the chance last night to announce a new Drama project from Playmaker Media: Love Child.

Set in 1969, a surprise promo said: “They came from all walks of life, innocence in a time of change. Together they dreamed of a brighter future.”

“The birth of a new generation.”

The cast includes Jessica Marais, Jonathan LaPaglia, Mandy McElhinney and Ryan Corr.

The promo also teased with the words, “Sex, drugs, liberation.”

Nine indicated Love Child would air later this year.

UPDATE:
Love Child, a joyful and powerful eight-part drama series, will be produced for the Nine Network by Playmaker Media, creators of the TV Week Logie Award-winning drama series, House Husbands.

Set in 1969 in Kings Cross, Love Child will follow characters caught in the crossfire as they live, work and play at the very centre of the cultural and sexual revolution. Their lives intersect between the Haven, a maternity hospital and home for unwed mothers, and the wild streets of Darlinghurst beyond the hospital walls.

“Love Child is a compelling and uplifting series that will appeal to every generation, from Gen-Y to Baby Boomers and beyond. The stories of young women and men fighting an unjust system are as relevant today as they were in the colourful, confronting and liberating world of Kings Cross in 1969,” said Andy Ryan and Jo Rooney, joint Heads of Drama at the Nine Network.

“Following the success of House Husbands, we are thrilled to join forces with Playmaker Media and a superb A-list cast on another quality Australian drama.”

David Maher and David Taylor from Playmaker Media said “Love Child is about the time and place Australia came of age and the new generation broke all the rules. Sarah Lambert has created a bold and authored drama and we’re excited to be producing it for Nine”.

Pre-production will start in Sydney shortly, with further cast announcements to come.

  1. The singer at the end of the Love Child episodes sounds and looks like Emma Louise Birdsall. That was Seals other artist in the first season of The Voice. Seal picked Karise Eden over Emma to take to the final

  2. Sound like another type of Underbelly, do they have to have sex and drugs all the time to get good ratings, surly writers can come up with other gripping stories apart from these to get ratings or do Channel 9 only want these type of things.

  3. good to see a relatively fresh cast, i will support it just for not going down the path of rodger corser, callan mulvey, claudia carvan, kat stewart, lachie hulme.

  4. Sounds interesting. Ryan Corr is one of our finest young actors in Australia, certainly better than most of the soap starlets currently clogging the Qantas queues heading for LA.

  5. How on earth could a new network drama slip under the radar and the first time we hear about it is a promo? Kinda amazing in this day and age
