Nine pulls Arrow premiere

Nine's plans for Arrow miss the target.

2013-04-10_2344Before it has even started Nine has fiddled with its scheduling for new super-hero series Arrow.

Nine had originally slated the series for 8:30pm next Tuesday night, even sending out Press Releases and making preview episodes available to media.

But yesterday it backflipped, and rescheduled a new episode of The Following (at 8:40pm), now due to play on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

That’s likely to put a lot of print schedules out of kilter now and isn’t a particularly encouraging sign for a series that many readers have already tipped will end up on GO!

Meanwhile its TBA slots on Wednesday and Thursday will not be home to Celebrity Apprentice. Nine has three Big Bang episodes from 7pm Wednesday and a new Top Gear at 7pm Thursday.

Arrow has been renewed for a second season in the US.

  1. The ad for arrow “looked” great. I was waiting it to start and low and behold…the following was on. Channel nine- Epic Fail. What a crock….this is ridiculous. Hope someone gets sacked for this. As per most Australians we work hard…and at night would like to relax and watch something new and exciting. One job and you can’t even get that right. Useless and peeved off doesnt get a mention. Sort out the “deadwood”.

  2. LOL there at it again… running adds saying “Comming Soon” I am starting it is an add there running just to make you watch there other shows in the hope thay will tell you when this new show will be aired…
so there draging it out as long as thay can to get the ratings of repeat shows..
    lol…

  3. My only conclusion is that the Nine Network is run by a bunch of idiots. We all know that network TV in general is feeling the pinch, but this sort of lunacy can’t be helping their cause. Why bother tuning in when there’s a 50% chance the advertised show won’t be on? I do plan to watch Arrow, but obviously it will have to be by other means.

  4. What is wrong with those idiots at Channel Nine…..they have more than one channel to air shows on. I don’t care whether it is on 9, gem or Go as long as they air it on one of them. How can they justify not airing a new show when they are playing repeats on other channels?

  5. As if this time The Following is still being showen as the show for tonight, Arrowed pulled!!!

But this seams to be the patten. It is almost like those who do the programing do not care about the viewers..
There running adds for shows, pulling them and changing times like kids…
TV programing these days is so bad, I have given up on watching, and Turn to DVD’s, renting them or buying….
    No adds!!!
I would support anyone who makes it know to those who pay out for adds that people are no longer watching TV and there for not seeing there adds, maybe once those people start pulling there money the TV programes is start getting there act together….

Why run a promo for a show you will never put to air?
So can we trust them with other new shows…
Rent/Buy A DVD and whatch what you want when you want Add free!!!

  6. I can only say, that I am pleased that I did not start watching it, well I couldn’t but at least it was yanked off before it started to screen like Dallas and Parades End.
Seriously though, are TV people running Nine, or are the hedge funds just wanting to get out of their investment with as much profit as possible?

  7. Oh ffs this is even worse than what they did to Smallville, everyone and his dog could see that 9 has a terrible track record with shows like this and that it should just be on GO! but with all the advertising they seemed determined to air it on 9, then they go and do this. Not that GO! even airs shows anymore, look what they did to vampire diaries, the whole network is pathetic.

  8. I agree with Darwinite….chat friends in the US all only lasted between 3 to 7 episodes of The Following….they said that is just kept going downhill…

  9. @HardcorePrawn – yup, 2nd ep. They advertised once or twice during Tuesday’s The Following and again at the end that it was on “tomorrow night” but I actually thought the ads were in error and meant next week until I checked. Don’t know what other advertising there was as I haven’t watched any Nine channel for ages.

  10. I’m just wanting to clarify something, having just re-read the article: did Nine broadcast the second episode of Following on Wednesday night, without much advertising to say it was on?
If so it’s no wonder it lost so many viewers.

  11. A 20% drop after a highly promoted premiere is fairly usual and a show would get less viewers on Wednesday than Tuesday because there are less live veiwers.

Nine probably made the decision after ratings deciding that it better to use The Following on Tuesday than risk trying to launch another new show.

The Voice + MKR and the few other 1m shows are probably all a lot of viewers, especially younger ones, have time to watch. Adding more shows to get more viewers at some point become self-defeating as they fail.

  12. Channel 9 Are so stupid this show will give them ratings, now they dig their own grave, ive seen the series its awesome , had a feeling Channel 9 would staff it up , put a show that doesn’t rate well , instead of a show that will
