Glowing with enthusiasm as she joined Larry Emdur, she stepped into the role after only being asked at 5pm yesterday.
“I joked that basically they asked everyone including the cleaner, but no-one was available!” she told TV Tonight.
“It was good because I had no time to think about it or get nervous.”
It was Obermeder’s first time shifting from Today Tonight reporter to live presenting but she relished the chance.
“Sometimes it’s fun to stretch your wings and have a crack at doing something else and see if it’s as much fun on the couch as it is when you’re watching from home. And it is!” she said.
“Larry and I are great friends off camera so it’s really nice to bring that relationship on camera. It definitely makes it easier when you’re working with someone when you’ve got a great chemistry with.
Obermeder returned to Today Tonight last month after being given the all-clear from her fight against breast cancer last October.
“Everyone here has been so supportive. I’ve been very blessed to have incredible support for quite a long time,” she said.
But now that she has had a taste of live presenting, Seven may have to hold her down.
“I just said to Larry, ‘What do you mean it’s over? 11:30? I was just warming up!”
