Seven snatches back Nine’s ratings win

Ratings: A week ago Nine won their first week for 2013. But Timeshifted numbers give it to Seven.

boxer2Nine just can’t seem to get a decent break.

A week ago they won their first ratings week of the year, thanks to The Voice and the Logie Awards. But after Timeshifted numbers have been tallied, they just lost it to Seven.

On overnight figures Nine network was originally declared victor:

Nine: 32.4%
Seven: 31.5%

But Timeshifted numbers reflect the shows viewers have watched on their PVRs up to 7 days after broadcast. Seven tends to have more dramas in its late night schedule, which pull better timeshifted viewings than sport.

Final figures for the week saw the lead change:

Seven: 32.0%
Nine: 31.8%

Officially history books will record the week as a Seven win. That means Seven has won every ratings week so far this year, including the week just gone. The scoreboard is now 8-0 in Seven’s favour.

A similar about-face happened in 2011.

As a consolation prize, Nine still won the primary channel.

  1. Agree that when MKR finishes up, Ch9 should win more weeks in the ratings but their method of relying on event shows like Block, Voice etc to drag the viewers in will ultimately fail as Ch7 seems to have a broader mix of programs that people watch weekly.

  2. Congrats Channel Seven. It just goes to show its not all about the preliminaries any more. I am not surprised by this either. Seven have done really well to stop the onslaught of The Voice. It was a smart move to extend MKR.

  3. An extra ~45k were timeshifting MKR than The Voice. There is probably also a fair bit of flicking going on between the two shows too.

And it’s not just Seven’s late night shows. The Voice and the time-slot staggering are increasing recording of Seven’s main dramas. DA 306k, Revenge 218k, PTTR 217k

  4. I’m a bit annoyed with sevens treatment of greys anatomy. They made us wait till april for new episodes of greys and now they are going through them with double episodes. I don’t mind the double episodes cause I want to watch it and I can record it because its very late but it seems pointless to make the audience wait so long and give us double episodes. Wouldn’t they have been better off to start in in Feb. Quite enjoy royal pains and wondering when seven are going to show new episodes. Also wondering where new episodes of bones have disappeared to.

  5. Congratulations to Seven for taking back a week with not only four episodes of The Voice but also the Logies, something that I really don’t think anyone would have thought possible three weeks ago. So many people were saying how Nine would be unstoppable with their new schedule, but this just shows you need build off your big reality shows rather than rely on them alone.
