Airdate: Reef Doctors

3reefdTEN has now announced its next local drama, Reef Doctors, starring Lisa McCune will premiere on Sunday, June 9 at 6.30pm.

Set on the picturesque Great Barrier Reef, the new one hour action adventure family drama will delight viewers and provide a perfect escape from the winter blues.

Gold Logie winner Lisa McCune (Sea Patrol, Blue Heelers) co-produces and leads a stellar cast including Rohan Nichol (Killing Time, Red Dog), Matt Day (Tangle, Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo), Richard Brancatisano (Underbelly: Razor, Home and Away), Andrew Ryan (Underbelly: Squizzy, Tomorrow When The War Began), Tasneem Roc (Crownies, East West 101, Spirited), German actress Susan Hoecke (Sturm der Liebe, Der Lehrer), Rod Mullinar (Satisfaction, Shortland St), Kristof Piechocki (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries) and newcomers Justin Holborow (Neighbours) and Chloe Bayliss (Dance Academy).

Running the remote Hope Island Clinic, Sam Stewart (Lisa McCune) is an accomplished doctor, who with her team, looks after the residents of all the neighbouring islands, as well as the holidaymakers and thrill seekers who visit the area. Not only a GP, Sam is a single mother with a free spirit and a determination – for an unusual hobby: venom.

Network Ten Executive Producer, Drama, Rick Maier said: “What’s not to love? Reef Doctors showcases Lisa McCune and the Great Barrier Reef – both National treasures. A return to broad-appeal family viewing, and perfect escapist entertainment on a cold winter’s night.”

  1. And after one week it has been taken off and replaced by…….. what else but Modern Family repeats. Which genius thought this show would rate with no promotion, in a 6:30 pm slot on a long weekend?.

    Well done Ten. Well done.

  2. As David said, prefect replacement for the old Sunday night Merlin slot, which was paired with Masterchef in past years.

Always Greener & Seachange worked earlier on Sunday evenings (abiet 7:30pm slots) so this seems a good fit to me.

  3. Great. Something to watch other than renovations or renovations or renovations (of obese people).
    Timeslot worked OK for Merlin.
I gather “Hope Island” is not Hope Island on the Gold Coast, thankfully.

  4. Looks like they didn’t want to get squashed in between the other 3 Aussie series on at the same night. Still, 6.30pm isn’t a traditional slot for a drama series in Australia.

  5. I find it ironic that the reason given for holding it over to 2013 was that it was more a summer show. And now it airs in the middle of winter. Either way, good to see it in the schedule.

Sun 6:30 will definitely give viewers choice instead of current affairs and reality.

  6. Wow Finally scheduled! Not sure the time slot will give it the best chance of success with the current competition.
At least gives viewers a choice of three different genres on the commercial networks!
    I wish it success!
