Haven’t I seen that pic before?

If I didn't know better I'd swear this promo photo was a rip-off of CSI: New York.

2013-05-13_1010If I didn’t know better I’d swear this promo photo for The Block was a rip-off on one CSI: New York did in

In the past Nine promos have been known to borrow from MTV, Battlestar Galactica, Bear Grylls. Even ABC America used “Still The One” way back in 1977, a year before Nine.

But in fact the photo is drawing upon a classic 1932 photo “Lunch atop a skyskraper” at the Rockefeller Center. Most sources credit Charles C. Ebbets as the photographer.

I guess in this case imitation is the kindest form of flattery.

And before anybody points it out, yes, one couple is edited out of the Block photo by me, not Nine, due to length.

Updated: Yep, Nine says it was an homage to the classic photo.

  1. I was going to mention the Friends version also it is a well done one by them. The original photos are great photography and recording of history.

If you search for Lunch atop a skyskraper there are a lot of versions some with lego men and crash test dummies.

  2. I’ve also noticed that the trailer for the new Sunday night line up on ABC1 is the same music as used in Underbelly Squizzy. Had me confused for a moment as to what promo and network I had on. Fun on those grey cells.
