Jim Carroll appointed Director of News and Current Affairs at SBS

Former TEN News boss and current World News Australia exec producer will replace Paul Cutler at SBS.

2013-05-15_1343SBS has appointed former TEN News boss Jim Carroll as its new Director of News and Current Affairs.

Carroll is currently the Executive Producer of World News Australia and will replace Paul Cutler who is retiring at the end of June after eight years.

Carroll is much respected in the industry having had 11 years with TEN with Walkley Award nominations for TEN, and overseeing major coverage of the Beaconsfield mine disaster, Black Saturday bushfires, Queensland floods and the Japanese Tsunami. He has been a senior news exec at Nine and Seven Networks. He joined SBS last December.

SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid told staff in an email, “I want to take this opportunity to thank Paul for his outstanding contribution to SBS which is the culmination of an extremely distinguished career both in Australia and internationally. In his time here, Paul has steered the SBS news and current affairs team through a period of great change and challenge for the media sector, cementing our reputation for high-quality and in-depth journalism. In particular, Paul has mentored many journalists through their careers both at SBS and other networks.

“Paul has been instrumental in leading the automated studio project and the design of our studio 1 set which has revamped the way we deliver news. He has also led the reinvigoration of WNA, Insight, Dateline and Living Black.”

SBS will be recruiting for the position of Executive Producer of World News Australia.
