Next week Seven screens the premiere movie Kath & Kimderella.
Bizarrely, the film will begin at 9:45pm next Tuesday night.
It won’t finish until 11:40pm. On a school night.
What kind of madness is this?
I was no fan of The Kath & Kim Kountdown but this is a first-run movie that should be playing at 8:30 somewhere. If not on a Sunday then how about in place of that dreadful Mrs. Brown’s Boys?
Seven will win the night with this for sure, but it must be resigned to the fact that much of the audience will Timeshift this one on PVRs.

Squirrel, Ambiguous is my middle name, it’s no secret.
I have a theory about Mrs Brown’s Boys. I view it as a backlash or antidote to the laughless, ‘quirky’, ‘low-key’ (often no-key) single-camera comedies of the last decade. But in pushing against modern comedy it has gone too far in the other direction, and just rehashes the worst aspects of 1970s comedy. If MBB based its style on comedy of the 1980s it would be far better. I long for the day when we get comedies which are both funny and intelligent, like Cheers, Seinfeld, Blackadder, etc.
