TEN hands a rose to The Bachelor Australia

2013-05-09_0028TEN has commissioned an Australian version of The Bachelor.

Shine Australia will produce the dating series which has chalked up 18 seasons in the US. The American series currently airs in Australia on GO!

Network TEN Chief Programming Officer, Beverley McGarvey, said: “The Bachelor is one of the longest-running and most successful television franchises in the world, with productions in 24 countries.

“We are thrilled to be working with Shine to take this iconic show and create a uniquely Australian entertainment event.”

Shine Australia Chief Executive Officer, Mark Fennessy, said: “There are few marquee brands which have
enjoyed the same connection with audiences worldwide as The Bachelor. We’re delighted to bring this brilliant series to Australian viewers and look forward to introducing our very own Prince Charming”

Dating / Reality shows have had mixed success in Australia from the short-lived Yasmin’s Getting Married and Australia’s Perfect Couple to the long-running success of The Farmer Wants a Wife.

Production will start shortly and the series will air on TEN later this year.

TEN is also poised to reveal its cast for Secrets and Lies: The Track shortly.

  1. If they follow the american format and have interesting contestants I think this will be a winner for ten. A lot of people I know find The Bachelor on Go a guilty pleasure and we have always wondered why there was never an Australian version. Will be watching!

  2. Shine will undoubtedly find a way to mess this up, quite likely by hiring the same uninspired producing team from Biggest Loser/Beauty & The Geek.

  3. Questions I would like to see ten answer ….

    1) There is so much bad feedback about this already, why don’t they scrap this horrible idea before they do their cash ….

    2) when they do make a huge loss on this bad move, will they reimburse the shareholders for wasting their cash?

I would appreciate an honest answer from the ten publicity department ……

  4. Secret Squirrel

I won’t be watching but I think this might still do ok. Ok for Ten that is but they’ve got to start somewhere – they’re close enough to being third that they can smell ABC’s bum (that’s a dog racing ref btw).

  5. jezza the first original one

If this is successful it will be a miracle. Miracles do happen, but they are rare.

It is a lousy, lazy decision. Is that really the best they can come up with?
