Ita Buttrose joins TEN mornings
TEN shows it means business by appointing Ita Buttrose to its upcoming morning show.

Veteran media personality Ita Buttrose AO OBE is joining TEN’s upcoming new morning show, being developed by Adam Boland.
71 year old Buttrose, the 2013 Australian of the Year, is the first name announced for the upcoming morning show, to air later this year. Her appointment shows that TEN means business in the battle to win broader audiences.
The as-yet-unnamed panel-based show is the first of two shows in development under TEN’s Director of Morning Television.
TEN CEO Hamish McLennan, said: “Like all Australians, I have long admired Ita Buttrose’s remarkable contribution to our country, through her publishing and media career and her vast array of charitable activities.
“Everyone at TEN is extremely pleased – and flattered – that she has agreed to join our network and become an integral part of our new morning show.
“Not only is Ita a consummate media professional and a tireless contributor to myriad causes, she is the only Australian media person ever immortalised in song. Cold Chisel knew Ita was cool when they wrote a song about her, and her status has only grown since then,” he said.
Ms Buttrose said: “I am looking forward to working with Adam Boland and the TEN team to give Australian audiences a morning show with edge, energy and above all, enjoyment.”
Adam Boland added: “We are incredibly honoured that Ita has chosen to join our charge into mornings. Ita is one of the most influential voices of our time. She’s also absolute class. I consider this appointment to be a major coup.
Buttrose’s most recent TV roles have included occasional appearances on A Current Affair and as a channel ambassador for Ovation. She won a new lease on public life following her portrayal by Asher Keddie in Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo.

@jonno – In TV-land “Breakfast show” is anything before 9am. “Morning show” is anything after 9am.
“Don’t forget TEN did a breakfast show called Good Morning Australia which had Kerrie-Anne as co-host”. 30 years ago, I believe.
Bert Newton did a ‘morning’ show called Good Morning Australia from 9am, in more recent decades.

What about Moira? “Here’s Moira” – most spoken words on morning TV.
To me it makes a sense, sort of. Who has time to watch morning shows on TV? Toddlers and pensioners. The latter surely will relate to Ita’s comments and ideas, as long as they live in the Big Cities and are financially well off.
Yes David I was aware that the rumour about James Mathieson was for the breakfast show. But it looks as if this show could be rolled into one six hour show as this article suggests:

This means that there is the possibility Matho could end up with Ita, as when the Matho rumour came out, we did not know ten was looking to go past 9am with its new project.
Sorry David but when you say a morning show it could mean anything after 12:01 am. I just assumed it was going up against Today and Sunrise. Don’t forget TEN did a breakfast show called Good Morning Australia which had Kerrie-Anne as co-host.
Yes I noted in the story it was one of 2 shows being produced by Boland. But very frustrating when people are still commenting with incorrect info even after a comment restating this.
Yes oztvheritage I heard that also. Very interesting move indeed. Ten certainly are daring to be different with this show. But seriously, Ita is 71-How long is she going to last on this show? 6 months-I wouldn’t say much more than five years unless she plans to be the Barbara Walters of Australia. Seriously I do think they’d be better going with someone a little bit younger….A lot younger in fact. I can’t imagine her and James Mathieson as a hosting duo.
Sometimes I despair that people simply cannot read. Ita is lined up for the morning show. TEN previously had The Circle. The rumour about James Mathieson was for a breakfast show. And it was only that: a rumour.
George Negus as co-host? Should have Turramurra and Toorak rocking!
In a bit of news elsewhere… I read today, this show is going to have a studio at Manly Beach Sydney. And this studio would be used for breakfast and morning shows…. being combined into one program – 6am-midday………Interesting.

Remember, it isn’t the show going up against Sunrise and Today, but The Morning Show and Mornings.
Ita is a wonderful woman a true icon of Australia and will be well suited to Tens new morning show. (I’m guessing it’s going to be very similar to the Circle)
Good move, but I’m still waiting for Ten to announce Kerri-anne for a morning show, c’mon we know its coming.
Ita is s legend yes but I would not have thought a major coup appointment. I can only hope she will not be hosting the new program but only a “panelist” given her lack of tv hosting experience.

Well, if u want people to know you aren’t the youth network anymore, hiring a 71 year old is the way to do it.
No doubt Ita is a legend, but is she a relevant legend? I’m not so sure…
Wasn’t this show supposed to be an FM radio style show with a heavy focus on music? This makes me think it is going for the same audience as today/sunrise.
I will give this show a go. I only gave Paul Henry 2 minutes before never going back. Adam has cred. Ita has cred. Sunrise and Today are all too much the same and something a bit different will be refreshing.
Really. Didn’t they have edge with that clown from NZ last year.
This will start well but end in tears. Again. For 10.
Lets hope this venture for TEN is successful, not just for them, but the industry as a whole.
I will miss her occasional appearances on Today.
Who said once women on Aussie TV get to 40, they get tossed aside, go Ita.
Oh, that’s interesting. So there will be no more appearances from her on The Today Show then.
Finally a sensible move from ten to have a person of Ita’s stature, instead of some ex reality person who has contributed nothing to society ……
